For all of you that attended the Chili bowl, I want to start a poll.

One question ...

If Sammy Swindell had passed Whitt and taken 2nd place.....would he have passed his son Kevin, or let him win the race?

Inquiring minds want to know what you think......

I'm really not a fan of Sammy or Kevin, but I must admit they both did a hell of a job.

What I think though... If Sammy was REALLY a racer, he would have RACED his way into the A. If he started two spots closer to the front, he could/would have won!

No doubt the Spindells were very entertaining. You have to take into account what the Rental Bowl is actually about. Any resembulance between the Silly Brawl Spindell cars and others built specifically to win this race and a normal POWRi legal midget is purely coincidental.

For example, many of the cars have every lightweight part imaginable on them. I'm told that the Spindell cars are around the 6-650 range while a legal midget must be at least 900 pounds. If you look closely, the front end has a built in wing which I believe is illegal also. The Mosen/Pickens cars from New Zealand have the built in wing also and an illegal V8 engine that is way over in cubes to what is allowed in this country. You have to remember that these people with bottomless pockets will spend, spend spend to try to win this race. It's way out of control. Yes, you can cite a legal car here and there as being successful but those cars are in the distinct minority.

It's also interesting at how they bent the on track rules from time to time to make sure their favorites advanced properly.

For example, Kevin Spindell. For his heat race, there was a huge pileup of cars including Spindell. Only three cars were still running after the pileup and several of stopped cars required some mechanical help in the work area in order to resume competition. One of them was the Kevin Spindell car. The broken cars were cleared of the track and the three still running were ready to take the green flag........ hahahahahahahaha... but the green flag didn't wave!!!! They waited about 5 minutes for all the cars to return to the track which is a blatent rule violation. If they had thrown the green flag, Spindell would have finished way down the list of finishers (been left in the work area) and would have had to play catchup (like Dave Darland did) for the rest of the evening. Instead, he had a ticket to the front.

And then there was the infamous yellow flag near the end of the Saturday A feature. Enough said!!!

Also, look over the heat race lineups for all of the qualifying nights. If you will notice, almost every heat race ONLY HAD ONE OR TWO FAMOUS STARS in them. I've participated in a lot of "draw for postion" type races and I will tell you from experience that it just does not happen that way consistently from race to race in the real world. This supposed "draw" that takes place allows the them to again advance their favorites by inserting a bunch of "creme puffs" that are easily passed. Thus... the Silly Bowl!!!

The Chili Bowl is the last frontier of racing where the best car builder/mechanic/driver usually wins. In this day, I enjoy that, that is what racing was founded on. Everything else these days are so spec'd out that it makes the racing very predictable and boring.

Really??? I have seen many drivers get different treatments in every series there is out there, so don't pretend that it only happens at the Chili Bowl. As far as the last yellow that was thrown, the 2 car brought it out, he tagged the wall and damn near stopped, everyone around my seating area thought the flag was legit and I have seen the same call made MANY times over the past 40 or so years.

Also, look over the heat race lineups for all of the qualifying nights. If you will notice, almost every heat race ONLY HAD ONE OR TWO FAMOUS STARS in them. This all started when the Chili Bowl got popular. As a veteran of 18 Chili Bowls, it wasn't this way until every rich kid decided he could buy a off the shelf front running car and beat the Swindell's, Boorse's, Kruseman's ect. at their game. When the event was a 2 day, 3 day and even at first when it became a 4 day event, the heats were STACKED, but that's what happens with 30 or so drivers/cars that are capable of winning and 240 rolling chicanes. The field gets watered down.
