I already whined on another site about this being the 3rd weekend in a row of no sprint car races for me due to rain outs. Well, I whined too soon, thankfully. Yes the Sprint Series of Texas races I was going to last night were rained out. That left Cowtown Speedway as the only track in the area that had not concluded their season and weren't rained out. The good thing is I consider Cowtown my home track as it's only 20 miles away and they generally have the best weekly show in the area anyway. They also run weekly sprints, sort of. They run for a track championship and run ASCS rules, but they also allow a lot of weeks off so they can run ASCS shows. I thought last night was going to be one of those nights off for the sprints as they were running late models and dwarf cars that they don't usually run along with a $2000 to win modified race. I was wrong. They ran the sprints too. As I said in my introduction, I like just about all kinds of racing, but sprints are the ones that I'll make an effort to go see, whether they be Racesaver or ASCS. To summarize, last night's races were awesome. LOTS of cars! Only about a dozen street stocks and late models, but the ones they had in each class were good ones. Street stocks seem to be a dying breed around here with all tracks having low car counts for them. The late model heat and features were so close they looked like they were lined up for a start on the last lap of both races. Over 30 bombers, 600 mini sprints, dwarf cars. Nearly 30 limited modifieds and 44 modifieds. The mini sprints and modifieds both had 2 B mains. They had 23 sprint cars which is enough to put on a decent show.
With all the rain we've had the track stayed sticky all night even with all those cars. But it did develop some ruts and both the sprints and mini sprints had several cars checking out the strength of their top wings, fortunately with no injuries. Even the modifieds and limiteds were bicycling. One modified didn't go all the way over, but gave us a good view of the bottom of his car through one and two one lap. Tom Lorenz who has raced ARCA in y'alls neck of the woods did get his modified on it's top taking the green in the first of 4 modified heats. He didn't bring the modified back out, but he stayed busy as he also ran his limited and his late model last night.

Upcoming races for me are one or two more Racesaver Sprint Series of Texas, a 2 night ASCS at the Devils Bowl and two 2 night ASCS races at Cowtown. One of those already has 53 sprints entered with at least 4 WoO competitors planning to race. Those are for sures. Possibles are the big ASCS race in Arkansas and a TX-KS 305 sprint shootout at the old Amarillo Speedbowl.

A video of saturday night's races. It's a little choppy, more like a lot of still photos at least until the end when the mini sprints are showing. The mini sprint race was won by DJ Estes a friend of mine. George White who some of you may have seen racing in the Silver Crown won the feature in the sprints. 2nd went to Chad Wilson, nephew of a friend of mine that races in the Sprint Series of Texas and owns Chad's car.

“Race Fan’s Dream” Draws Sell-Out Crowd & 235 Cars; Cowtown Sprint Nationals Up Next

Kennedale TX (9/28/09) by DarinShort.com. The first ever “Race Fan’s Dream” lived up to its billing of ‘something for every fan’ this past Saturday night at Cowtown Speedway.

And like they say, “Everything is bigger in Texas:” a sell-out crowd witnessed 235 race teams assemble for a night of wild action, mixed with reflection and patriotism with the 9-11 Memorial presentation and professional fireworks display.

11th place starter Clyde Dunn Jr. picked up the $2,000 to win Modified feature in the whopping 48-car field. 7th place starter George White took the checkers over the 25-car Sprint Car field and Max Eddie Thomas won the LenMar Motorsports Late Models feature. Complete results are posted at the track website www.CowtownSpeedway.com.

For a brief event recap including picture slideshow, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram has assembled a page on their Motorsports section, dated 9/27/09; which can be viewed at:

Cowtown Speedway would like to thank the fans and race teams for their support and cooperation in helping to pull off an event of this size, all within the confines of a one-night format and a budget-friendly $15 adult general admission price.

The Race Fan’s Dream was the final warm-up for the $85,000 2nd annual Cowtown Sprint Nationals (CSN) presented by ShopTheBoss.com and Lone Star Speedway and takes place on October 9th and 10th. The Topless 100 for the Modifieds, Limited Topless Modifieds and Winged 600’s Championships will also be a part of the jumbo-sized, open wheel weekend of racing action.

Race teams are urged to pre-register for this event by October 4th, as that will reserve a pit parking space for their tow rig. At the time of print, there are currently 55 Sprint Car teams from 11 states entered, with many more expected to join the fray.

The CSN field assembling is quickly turning into a “who’s who” of the sprint car racing world and it is also the final ASCS Lone Star, Gulf South and Sooner region point’s race of 2009.

The pit parking assignments will be finalized on October 5th from those that have taken the time to pre-enter, on a first-come, first-served basis; and that goes for all race divisions. The race track will park race teams not pre-entered where they see best fitted; so if your tow rig has special needs due to its size, you should pre-enter to make sure those needs can be met, best as possible. It also helps the announcer keep fans better informed.

The Topless Modifieds, Limiteds and Winged 600’s can also take advantage of saving $25 off of race week entry fees by preregistering on or before October 4th.

Special 2-day advance adult tickets are also available through October 8th for just $35, which is $10 off of race weekend pricing. A limited supply of reserved-seat tickets are currently available for just $40, which guarantees you to premium seating.

Just click www.CowtownSpeedway.com for complete Cowtown Sprint Nationals information, including driver pre-entry list, race pre-registration, advance tickets, event flyer and more.

Congratulations to all of the winners in the first-ever “Race Fan’s Dream.” We’re looking forward to another action-packed weekend of racing on October 9th and 10th with the running of the Cowtown Sprint Nationals at the Fastest Li’l Dirt Track In Texas, Cowtown Speedway!

No, I meant George White. He and Paul are not related, but I think they were teamates at one time in the Silver Crowns. George and his brother Russell grew up in Kennedale TX where Cowtown is located. Paul and his brother Keith are originally from Temple TX are are the sons of TX legend Bill White. Between the 4 of them, they do seem to win a lot of races.

Paul has been busy this year racing the Dust Devil modified and limited modified in the Houston area. Keith won a USMTS limited modified show either late last year or earlier this year at HRP.

Yes, the "White's" here are a bit confusing - mainly because both George and Paul both raced quite a while for Paul Cook...George still does, but that association just led people to conclude that they were related; but in fact were not.

Back to the CSN...

Thank you to the nearly 20 cars that pre-entered the Cowtown Sprint Nationals, Topless 100, Topless Limiteds and Winged 600's Championships just yesterday alone...

For those that haven't, but are planning to; please help us to help you by getting pre-registered by Sunday, October 4. Bo will be finalizing his reserved pit parking chart with your trailer info on it; which he will be doing on Monday from entries received previous to that.

Entries received after Sunday will be parked at the track on race night, and where the track deems best.

That being said, here's the new 64-car Cowtown Sprint Nationals entry list - 13 states represented (the Mods, Ltds and 600's will be updated next week):

Thanks everyone for all of the information on the White's. I know Paul and had never heard of George, after I posted last night I saw George's name in the pre-entry list for COWTOWN and realized Paul probably didn't win.
Appreciate the clarification on the White families, thanks again.
