Indiana Sprint Week and Cole Carter

I posted this question late on another thread - thought I would try a new thread.
My son, grandson and myself are planning on attending the Indiana Sprint week next year. What city would you consider setting up our headquarters (motel) in - Indianapolis? We would then travel to each race from this location. Thanks for any suggestions. On another matter I was happy to see Cole Carter and his Dad (Pancho) come out to the PAS for a sprint car show prior to the Thanksgiving show at Irwindale. Got to talk with both of them briefly as Pancho is one of my heros from the old days. How well did young Cole do this year and can we expect good things from him next year. Seems like a nice young man. Also what is the status of the Carter team. I haven't seen much about them. Thanks again. One more thing to get off my chest. Kevin Oldham (KO), hope thats right, does an outstanding job in covering Indiana sprint car racing. I look forward to his column each week or so. He is doing a great job and just wanted to thank him here for his contributions. Bob in California |

From someone that has done this trip that is a good center for your trip. The worst drive is to Gas City. Stay over night around Lawrenceburg to Gas City. Then Indy for your center. Try the Union Jack to eat once.

When I made my first trip to Larryville last year, itsanonwingthing (thanks you, Keith!) recommended that I use IN hwy 9 north from Shelbyville up to I-69 near Anderson rather than staying on I-74 to I-465 to I-69. It cuts off quite a few miles and avoids the Indy traffic.

There are plenty of hotels and good places to eat in the brownsburg and surrounding area. Also, during the day while you're waiting to leave for the track you can probably get the guys at Kasey Kahne or Tony Stewart racing to give you a short tour. Also Beast chassis, hoosier tire, Spike chassis, and just about every drag racing teams has a shop in Bburg. Carter's shop is also there right in the middle of town. Brownsburg is 6 miles west of Indianapolis on I-74

Indianapolis traffic is almost a no factor, unless you leave late for Gas City(traffic on 69n can be a little testy after 4pm). I would say to stay on the southeast side of Indy (there is a brand new Holiday Inn being built in Beech Grove on 465 se corner of town). From there Bloomington is 1hr,Gas City75 min, Lawrenceburg 90 min, ThAT if added 80min, Boswell 2hrs, Haubstaut 3 hrs.
When going to Lawrencburg there is a Casino directly across the street, if you stayed there for the 2 night show you can leave your car and walk to the track. A trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is way cool. Also ,close to the aboved mentioned Union Jacks, anyone at the Speedway can direct you (Union Jacks is a Pub, someone else will have to let you know if kids are ?), it is just up Crawfordville rd. about 2 miles. A really neat ballpark downtown AAA baseball, walk-up tickets always available. |

Go to Gasoline Ally, about the center of the Speedway to the right which is i think South? There are some shops there. Bob's East shop and more. Good luck and have fun. Just bring a light rain coat and pants. The kind that can be put in a pocket. :checkered:away.

If your group is all adults, Kelly's Pub II is good too. Charley Brown's is a must for breakfast! |
