The group is being formed for the enjoyment and entertainment of Sprint Car Racing. The costs of the sport has become unattainable to a lot of people involved in this sport. This is a Steel Block organization that is being formed to keep a lot of racers in the sport that are being financially forced out and make it possible for new people to get involved in Sprint Car Racing.
I am Sam Stockon Sr. and the originator of this group. I was a racer for 48 years. After retirement in 1999 my wife Rosalie and I started the Midwest Sprint Car Series (MSCS) in 2001. MSCS grew and became popular, but do to my health, I was forced to sell the Series. MSCS is still successful, but caters to the high end of the sport. A different direction for Sprint Cars was needed so I decided to start this group wih input of racers and car owners. SCORA stands for Sprint Car Owners Racing Association. The steel block limit was decided to start with to be simplest way to restrict the organization. As it grows past this growing year there may have to be some specs added. Al this time there are a number of racers that have Sprint Cars that can race without spending added dollars to meet specs.
Scheduling is being aggressively worked on. T. J. Stapp has done a good job at working this side of the Series. A lot of possibilities in scheduling is still in the works. We are reaching the twenty race number for 2009. Series sponsors are growing. A major Series sponsor may be announced any day now. Hoosier Tire Midwest and the Bell Helmet Company are two of the eleven sponsors already involved. A large number of drivers have shown interest and a commitment list of over forty drivers are in this office.
Two bonus items with the Series is that Joe Chamberss will be Race Coordinator and his Official Push Truck group will be part of the Series events. CAE Performance owned by Curt Eldridge will supply a parts trailer at the races.
We are working on a points fund and a Rookie Award for 2009. The purse setup is $600.00 to win and $150.00 to start and $100.00 tow for those missing the feature. The top ten in points at the start of each night will be guaranteed $200.00 against winnings.
To help make the races more entertaining for the fans. The feature lineups will draw 2-4-6-8 starting inversion with the previous events winner starting tenth. Heats will be run with passing points.
Tracks already on the early schedule are the Terre Haute Action Track, Kamp Motor Speedway, Boswell, Indiana, Morgan County Speedway, Jacksonville, Illinois, Chandler Speedway, Chandler, Indiana, Clay County Speedway, Flora, Illinois, Vermilion County Speedway, Danville, Illinois. Terre Haute on June 13 will be a premier event show with the crate late models. Also, SCORA may be added to the Hut 100 on September 12 at Terre Haute. A few shows may have bigger payoffs. Eldora has an event on August 1 that includes SCORA. We also have a large number of tracks we are still working with for scheduling.
Here is hoping SCORA Sprint Car Series can make a fun place to race and profitable show for the promoters and entertaining events for the fans.
