Fast Car Almost Earns Great Result for Walker at Belle-Clair
By Jessica Jenkins

When Gage Walker and his #7x team pulled into Belle-Clair, it was with great hopes to finally have the weather cooperate again. In the three weeks since his last race at Daugherty Speedway, two of his races had been washed out. In fact, his planned USAC race in Gas City, IN was canceled so early that his family-owned team nearly decided to make the long trek to Belle-Clair for Friday night's race instead. Of course, rain wiped out everything beyond a couple heat races that night. But it didn't deter Walker's family-owned team from showing up for day two of POWRi racing in Belleville, IL to start October off right.

After having so many shows disrupted by inclement weather, Walker was understandably excited to get back on track in Southern Illinois. And it all started off very well at Belle-Clair Speedway against a strong field of competitors. The 18 year old translated his fifth place starting spot in heat two into a third place finish, earning him the last starting spot on passing points in the Feature.

Waiting through the two Semis to see who he would be starting ahead of, the high school grad was prepared to get on track once more. He started 14th when the green flag flew in the Feature and didn't even look back. Surviving the numerous cautions, Walker had worked his way to well inside the top ten by the final handful of laps, with his sights set on a top five. However, amidst the furious racing, someone stalled in front of him with five to go. Having no other option, the Indianapolis-native hit his competitor in the back before stalling himself. Restarting at the back, there wasn't enough time to make his way back to the top ten. However, he did reach 17th (out of twenty-three) by the time the checkered flag waved. It was a disappointing finish to a promising night in his first POWRi race since June, but he walked away confident that a top five could have easily been his.

Even though summer is winding down, there's still a lot of racing coming up over the next couple weeks for Walker. Included is a USAC triple header at Tri-City Speedway in the suburbs of St. Louis this weekend on October 6th-8th where you will likely see this rising star racing.

Hi Guys,Lottery Sambad
Thanks for sharing this, Jessica! You can really feel how much heart Gage and his team put into it. Racing through setbacks like weather and that tough finish shows serious character. He handled it like a pro. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on him at Tri-City—he’s got something special. Appreciate the updates—keep them coming.

I didn't know Belle-Clair had reopened.
