RYAN BERNAL ADDS MERCED TO WIN LIST

MERCED, CA – JULY 14, 2021… After passing Kalib Henry on the third circuit, Ryan Bernal (Hollister, CA) raced to Friday’s USAC West Coast Sprint Car win at Merced Speedway. The victory marked Bernal’s second triumph of the season and the first appearance for the series at the Merced County Fairgrounds. The 2011 Rookie of Year took the Matt Wood Racing owned #17W Elk Grove Ford / NOS Energy Drink machine to his 38th career checkered flags ahead of Henry, hard charger Shane Hopkins, point leader D.J. Johnson, and fast qualifier Kaleb Montgomery.

Montgomery began the night by setting the track record and earning his fourth career Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award. Kaleb set the new standard of 12.401 over the 17-car roster.*

Making his first USAC start of the year, Shane Hopkins took the night’s Rod End Supply Hard Charger Award / Best Passing Job honors with a third place run from ninth. In addition, Hopkins took the Saldana Racing Products Spec Award for being the highest finishing Spec Sprint.

By virtue of his thirteenth place finish, Kyle Edwards earned the Wilwood Disc Brakes Lucky 13 Award. Edwards had to overcome a mishap in qualifying before heading to Placerville the following night.

The 10-lap heat race victories went to Jarrett Soares (Extreme Mufflers First Heat), and Bernal (Sway-A-Way Torsion Bars Second Heat).
