Atomic Speedway Doublehader This Saturday

For only the second time this season, the NAPA Auto Parts - FAST on Dirt winged 410 tour will pair up with the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series (BOSS) non wingers. The FAST portion is the 21st annual "Freedom 40" paying $5,000 to the main event winner. The BOSS show will be the 6th running of the "Jason Soudrette Memorial" paying $1,500 to win the 25 lap main event.

Troy, Ohio racing legend, Jack Hewitt, won the first two Freedom 40's in 1990 and 1991. Originally and unsanctioned event, the Freedom 40 now falls under FAST sanction for the first time ever. Cole Duncan will lead the touring regulars into Atomic with a 53 point lead on Lee Jacobs. Duncan has won the last 4 consecutive runnings of this special event and seems to have a stranglehold on the 3/8 mile high banked speed palace. Jacobs will be shooting to become the first ever father/son Freedom 40 winners as his father, Kenny Jacobs, won it in 1997. Tyler Gunn, Jordan Harble and Cody Bova round out the top 5 in the current standings. Max Stambaugh, T.J. Michael, Cale Conley, Cap Henry and Justin Peck round out the current top 10.

On the BOSS side, Matt Westfall holds a 274 point lead over Cody Gardner. Westfall has 2 prior tour wins at the facility and can clinch the 2019 championship just by making Saturday night's main event. Trailing the lead duo is Dustin Ingle who is only 18 points behind Gardner with Kory Crabtree and Dustin Webber completing a very close top 5. Dallas Hewitt, the nephew of the inaugural Freedom 40 winner Jack Hewitt, sits sixth in BOSS non wing points. Korbyn Hayslett, Steve Little, Parker Frederickson and Mike Miller round out the current top 10.

Both main event parade laps will hold special significance. The FAST "Freedom 40" field will go 3 wide to salute the fans and pay tribute to local sprint car racing driver and supporter, Rick Fraley, who passed unexpectedly this past Saturday. The BOSS field will go "4 Wide for the 44" of Jason Soudrette. The family car 44 will be racing with Dickie Gaines at the wheel. Jason and his father, John Soudrette, came to Atomic in July of 2011 to compete in the very first tour event. They were among the first full time supporters, despite Jason's diagnosis with leukemia. We lost Jason on December 2nd of 2013, but we will race Saturday night in his memory.

With fall weather finally scheduled to arrive, start times have been moved forward. Pit gates will open at 2 pm with general admission gates open at 3. Driver meeting is set for 4:30 with hot laps at 5. General admission is $20 with seniors and veterans admitted for $18 while kids 10 and under are free. Pit passes will be $35. For teams competing, no mufflers are required. We will be using the Westhold (yellow) transponders. They will be available to rent for $10. Both TCB Speed and Kear's Speed Shop will be on hand to service teams and methanol is available for purchase at the track.

For BOSS cars, it is a 4 corner Hoosier tire rule, open to ANY Hoosiers. For FAST, all teams must run flat top wings with a maximum 2" wickerbill. Tires must be 4 corner Hoosiers with the left rears being the "H" series and the right rear being the "H" or "Medium" or "W18". Also, a 1400 pound minimum weight is in effect for FAST.

Complete payouts for each are as follows: FAST (40 Laps): 5000, 2500, 1200, 900, 800, 700, 600, 500, 450, 425, 400 on back to start. We start 20 cars. If the car count is 30+, we start 22 and if the car count hits 40+ we start 24 cars. All B-Main non transfers will earn $100. For the BOSS event (25 Laps): 1500, 900, 700, 600, 500, 450, 400, 375, 350, 325, 300, 290, 280, 270, 260, 250, 250, 250, 250, 250. The same rules apply to adding cars to the field and B-main non transfer money is still $100.
