For the last couple of years, many of us on here have been enraged by oil/fuel costs. Now, with energy costs in reverse no one is celebrating. Of course it is coming at the same time as a monumental collapse of the stock and lending markets, but you take what you can.

I guess in parts of Texas, gas is under $2.00 a gallon.

I look at it as a reduction in my transportation taxes.

Although, I personally don't know if I want to see prices get so low that many of the energy projects in place(tar sands, new drilling etc.) are cancelled. If we don't get a more diverse energy base we will be going through these ebbs and flows for at least the span of my life time.

So on a gloomy Friday in fall in Indiana, we do have something to celebrate.

There is talk down here that some deepwater projects, now in the planning phases, may be put off. New drilling should go on. Here is an article that I read in today's Houston Chronicle about it: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...s/6075801.html

I paid US$2.63 for Super this morning.

Discuss away. Bright, sunny and clear down here in Houston. Even a comfortable dry 63 degrees F.

:thumb I am happy to see lower gas prices, not below $2.00 a gallon here yet but sure beats the $4.00 we were paying earlier in the year. I think it's human nature to complain when things are bad, it's easy and people agree with it. As far as a more diverse energy base, I would like to see some performance cars built around the E-85 fuel instead of the flex fuel vehicles that are being offered now. Bring back some muscle cars that run strictly on E-85, or a Hybrid that runs on E-85 and batteries. The use of Ethanol only could have some positive health and environmental impacts also. Maybe this gasoline we use every day is a reason for some of the cancer.

I doubt that the price of oil will remain low. OPEC has already decided to cut production in an effort to increase the price of crude. I certainly wouldn't want to believe that they would do anything to help keep the price low. In my opinion, we have to continue to develop alternative energy for the immediate future as well as for future generations.

So far their cut in production has failed to produce any short term rise in futures price. What will drive alternative energy development is, of course, economics.

Don't worry, there will be a storm or refinery fire or terrorist blowing up a pipeline somewhere or some other lame excuse that will drive the prices back up. The oil companies are not going to be satisfied with the profits from $2 gas when they know we will pay pretty much anything they charge.

Once the ******** is over the price will go back up, along with additional increases in the price of everything else. I haven't seen the lower fuel costs resulting in decreases of other products like groceries. Maybe that takes time to work it's way out.

******** years always suck for the economy. And usually the first year of a new president is the same. Saw it time and again in our family business.
