Sometimes the dead come back to life! Cannonball is on the All Star Sprint Speedweek schedule for 2012.
Cannonball Speedway ; St Clairsville, Ohio
Built in 1975 and ran from 1975-1987 then it reopened in 1999 and has run a few races here and there ever since, but with many seasons going by with no racing at all. I know Cannonball has not run over the last few seasons but it appeared someone was working on the track around the time we were there. (New Lights and fresh clay)
This track was built to replace the old Saint Clairsville Speedway which was closed at the end of 1973 to strip mine the property. I will post pics of it too at a later date, but not much to see of it after being mined.
As for the photos: The pit area is on the high hillside off the backstretch. It is a steep uphill climb off turn 2 to the pits. There are nice size bleachers on both sides of the press box at the top of the hill on the frontstretch, but they are pretty far away from the track. In the center, below the press box, there is a closer set of bleachers.
Stay tuned ....... it may hold more than just one sprint race this year!
