I just finished reading through the various threads concerning sprint car racing this evening. Some rather low numbers at a couple of tracks but when added together the four tracks (Lawrenceburg, Paragon, Lincoln Park & Tri State) drew 84 total sprint cars. Not bad but certainly not great either.
Take into consideration also that USAC's Eastern Swing took approximately 20 cars and drivers away from the midwest and you could of had over 100. Also, I believe that Waynesfield ran traditional sprint cars this evening but I haven't seen any results so I don't know how many cars that they drew.
Probably just a case of the number of tracks running sprints in a rather confined area. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out next Saturday night.

I went back and ran the numbers too. WHat I found sort of interesting is that two weekends where USAC had a big race, there were more sprints than others. THis does not hold true for ths weekend but I wonder if the weather had more to do with than then anything.
5/8 was the weekend of the Hut Hundred. THere were 11 cars, Clauson, Hmeil, Armstrong, Cone, Jones, Coons, Messeraul, Tr. Hines, Clark, Hagan, Darland, East, that could have ben in action that wekend yet there were over 100 in action.
5/22 was the Iowa wekeend. ON that weekend add GArdner, Williams, and Windom and subtract COne and Messeraul yet the counts were over 100.
THe average at the regular non-winged tracks is still over 23. WHat is concerning is the low numbers thrown up by Kokomo and LPS. However, I think you have to watch the trend a little more to understand what is going on.
WAynefield rained out this weekend.
