How to build upon the Gold Crown Midget race

So after watching 50+ midgets race three nights in a row, I have decided that we need to try to concentrate at how to continue to have these great shows.
What things worked well for this race weekend? How lessons could we learn to create even more shows. This is only the third year of racing the Gold Crown, and it is quickly becoming a must see on everyone's race calandar. We have several other events that have a rich history, strong tradition, and some decent payouts that we can build from. Belleville, Fireman nationals, Hut Hundred, USAC speed week, POWRi money week. What will it take to make these shows special? I think the first obvious thing that helps the Gold Crown is that it is not fighting many scheduling conflicts. Most races have stopped by early October. Sopmewhat related but seperate was no sanctioning bodies were racing against the race. The different sanctions have a history of sanctioning against each other. Size of the track. While I find this one to be a push, you always hear that people do not want to race Belleville because of the size. However, to be honest, I fail to see how a motor running the cushion at Tri-City could not compete at Belleville, and at some point everyone was running the cushion. Decent pay. The pay for the event looked very good. Tri-City should be commended on the purse. It is an event. The amount of campers showed that it is quickly becoming a must see race. What are some of your thoughts of what made this race a success and what the other potential big midget races should do to capture some if its success. Remember this is a post on the positives of the weekend and what we can do to build up the other events. |

I think the fact that it's a multi-day show is a huge help for it. With economic conditions the way they are, SOME race fans may not be willing to drive far to see a big ONE night show, but if they can go and find a place to stay close to the track, they may load up and go.
I also think track location has a huge factor to play in this one as well. There are plenty of hotels close by the track and plenty of room for those that choose to camp. You're also extremely close to downtown St. Louis which gives folks something to do during the days between races. All in all, this event has a whole lot more going for it than against it! Well done USAC and Tri-City Speedway! |

if you can get more than ten midgets to show up for a race anymore its a success/ midget owners n racers are their own worst enemy for not supporting midget races, duh!

I would think, some sort of T.V. coverage would help. Specifically the Gold Crown, being this close to a market as large as St. Louis, with several stations, someone would surely do a 30 min segment, instead of those danged infomercials. I know it's all about the money. I just wished there was some kind of better exposure for all forms of dirt track racing, open wheel in particular.jmo
