This Saturday (Sept 20) Williams Grove is going to run the Super Sportsman class without the wings!!! I'm asking all east coast fans that frequent this board to support this show so we can send the message we want more wingless racing. The real kicker is the cost to get in this week is only $5.00!!!

When my wife & I got there we were nervous because we knew taking the wings off of a whole field of cars that lack wingless experience has the potential to be disastrous. Watching warm-ups didn't help alleviate our fear either as they looked pretty squirrely. But I must admit the drivers & crew picked up on it pretty quick. By the time they ran the heats several guys looked good & by feature time all of them but a few really looked like they had the hang of it. I think that really says a lot about the talent level of the super sportsman drivers. Those guys really gained my respect last night running very close to each other, close but clean. No way in hell could the local 358 sprint guys do what the Super Sportsman drivers & crew did last night. Great job guys!!!

All in all, a very entertaining show from the open wheel cars last night. I hope we see more of it in the future. Personally, I’d like to see a once a month Sunday night open wheel double header of wingless super sportsman & ARDC midgets at Williams Grove, Lincoln or other area tracks. That would ROCK!!!

Saturday night at Williams Grove Speedway the Sutliff Auto Group super sportsman had a new look. The wings were off the racecars for the first time in the Williams Grove super sportsman division. The lack of downforce didn’t slow down Ryan Rupp as he won his first super sportsman feature at the Grove.

Ryan Rupp started on the outside of the front and had the lead off of turn two. Scott Dellinger applied heavy pressure by working the bottom lanes, keeping him within a length of the leader.

On lap nine the red flag came out for a spectacular wreck in turn three. Dave Berkheimer and Dylan Cisney tangled, sending both cars into a series of flips. The Cisney car vaulted over the third turn fencing, landing on the grass banking. Neither driver was injured in the crash.

Following the restart it was Rupp in front with Dellinger and Bobby Hockenberry trailing. By the end of lap 11 Hockenberry seized second from Dellinger.

Hockenberry was within striking distance of the leader. Over the final three laps Hockenberry had his hands full with a rapidly closing Doug Hendricks.

Ryan Rupp cruised home for the win in front of Hockenberry, Hendricks, Dellinger and Gregg Foster.

“I knew who was coming,” said Rupp following the feature. “There was a number twenty-five car (Hockenberry) that was surely fast all night long. I seen him sneaking up back there and I knew Scott was behind me there for a while. All I knew I had to do was drive a straight line.”

The heat wins for the 25 Sutliff Auto Group super sportsman went to Frankie Herr, John Stoner and Bobby Hockenberry.

I have wanted to get to Williams Grove for a couple years....but nto for the track, but for the amusement park. Too bad I won't get a chance to do that.

That grass area you are refering to outside turn 3 wouldn't be beer hill, would it?

Did the amusement park but not the race track. The Williams grove cyclones lifthill was held up by cables to nearby trees. Not only that. It had beer cans for track in spots on the lift. Closed forever now.

Chuck, who will get back there for a USAC NW race someday
