KELSEY CHEVROLET SPRINTS RETURN TO LAWRENCEBURG SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY JULY 23rd

The Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints return to the Lawrenceburg Speedway (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) on Saturday, July 23rd for “CDL Night at the Races.” Joining the sprints will be the Budweiser UMP Modifieds, Impact Sports Pure Stocks, and Bessler’s U Pull & Save Hornets.

All persons who present a valid CDL license will receive free general admission. For all others adult general admission is $15, children 7-12 are $7, while 6 and under are free. Pit passes are $30 for all ages.

Due to the extreme heat predicted this weekend promoter Dave Rudisell has revised the time schedule. The gates will open at the regular time (4:00 pm pit, 5:00 pm general admission) but practice has been pushed back to 7:00 pm, with opening ceremonies following at 7:30 pm. The sprint draw will close at 6:15 pm and all other classes will close at 6:30 pm.

Due to events such as the Dearborn County Fair, Merrill Downey Memorial, Indiana Sprint Week and Night of Destruction it has been five weeks since the Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints have circled the 3/8ths mile high banks of the Lawrenceburg Speedway. Prior to the hiatus, a tight 3-way battle for the championship had developed between Jarett Andretti, Shawn Westerfeld, and Joss Moffatt.

Andretti, the 2013 Lawrenceburg Speedway Rookie of the Year, holds a 10 point advantage Westerfeld. Jarett was a first-time winner on May 7th and has three more top fives and a pair of top ten finishes in seven starts. He also has a pair of heat wins and has been on the gas early in the evening leading the heat race hard charger standings.

Westerfeld, the 2014 Lawrenceburg Speedway Champion, skipped a race early in the season to chase the BOSS title and will have to choose where to race this weekend as there is a conflict yet again. In six races at the Burg Shawn has three feature wins, a second, third and eighth place finish. He has been fast all season winning five of six heat races and leading laps in every feature he has started.

Moffatt, the 2007, 2009 and 2015 Lawrenceburg Speedway Champion, currently sits 105 points behind Andretti. Joss is the only driver besides Andretti to start every feature. He has a feature win, two top five, and a top ten finish this season. Once the green flag waves in the feature Joss has been on the move, improving 28 positions over the course of the season.

Garrett Abrams sits fourth in points and has been knocking on the door for his first feature win. A string of bad luck in early May hurt Garrett’s title hopes but he has amassed a second place, three third place and an eighth place finish in five starts.

Rounding out the top five is Burg newcomer Braxton Cummings. Braxton is acclimating himself to the high banks and already has a 5th and 6th place finish under his belt.

The standard Lawrenceburg Speedway purse of $1,500 to win / $225 to start will be in effect for this event. In addition, all cars who do not start the feature receive $100 tow money. The complete purse breakdown can be found on the Lawrenceburg Speedway website.
