ANDERSON - Kyle Hamilton returned to Mel Kenyon Midget action after being away for three years and immediately returned to the winner’s circle. Pole sitter Trey Osborn led the first six laps of the feature event before being passed by Dameron Taylor and Hamilton. Hamilton and Taylor would battle for the lead over the course of the remaining 24 laps. Hamilton took the lead for the first time on lap 13 with an inside pass of Taylor entering turn three. Following a red flag on lap 16 when three midgets tangled in turn four, Taylor made an impressive inside pass entering the third turn. But Taylor’s lead was short-lived. Five laps later Hamilton was able to dive to the inside exiting the fourth corner and led the remainder of the race. With Kyle Hamilton and Taylor racing hard for the win there was a battle between Nick Hamilton, Clayton Gaines and Ryan and Logan Huggler for the third spot. There were two cautions period in the final ten circuits with the final one coming with three laps remaining when Nick Hamilton banged tires with Logan Huggler and made contact with the front straight wall. On the Ivy Tech restart Hamilton was about to maintain the lead. Taylor finished second followed by Ryan Huggler, Gaines and Logan Huggler. “I had an opportunity to race this car tonight and wanted to get some seat time before the (Pay Less) Little 500,” Hamilton said. “Dameron had a really strong car on the restarts and I was impressed with his move to the inside,” he said. “I think his car got tight in the center of the corner and I was able to cut inside and pass him.” This is the third time in the past year that Taylor has been involved in hotly contested battles at Anderson Speedway last year battling with Kyle O’Gara for the win. Nick Hamilton led all ten circuits to win the first heat race with Logan Huggler glued to his rear nerf bar for most of the distance. Kyle Hamilton moved into the third position on lap seven with an inside pass of Tommy Kouns and the three front runners were all waiting for someone to make a mistake. Nick Hamilton beat Huggler to the checkers by .123-seconds followed by his brother, Kyle, .251-seconds back. Gaines won the second heat race leading the entire distance. He was chased early by Trey Osborn, who drifted high in turn three on the sixth circuit which allowed Ryan Huggler and Taylor to claim podium finishes. For the second consecutive time, dating back to 2015, Logan Huggler set fast time with a lap of 12.586-seconds followed by Taylor at 12.607-seconds and Kyle Hamilton with a time of 12.789-seconds. |
