(Perris, CA, February 25, 2016) With the March 5th 2016 Amsoil Sprint Car Series opener looming just a week away at Perris Auto Speedway, one young driver is chomping at the bits to get on the track and do what he does best. Jake Swanson, who drives the famous Moose Racing car, is highly optimistic that he will be in the winner’s circle for the first time in a 410 sprint car between now and the season ending 21st running of the Budweiser Oval Nationals presented by All Coast Construction in November. 2016 will be the full-time college students third season driving for owners Tom and Lauri Sertich on the Moose team. Actually it will be his fourth season in the USAC/CRA Series. After being named Rookie of the Year in a car that was set up by 2007 USAC/CRA champion Tony Jones, Swanson did not have a ride in in 2013. However, when David Cardey announced his retirement at the end of that year, Swanson was chosen over a long list of applicants to driver the well know #92. Hindsight has proven that to have been a very wise decision. In 2014, the Cal State Northridge marketing student ended up 7th in USAC/CRA points and had a sure win ripped from his grasp when another car clobbered him late in a race. He bettered that in 2015 moving up to fourth in points and another probable win taken away due to a car issue at The PAS. With those successes, the affable driver is poised and ready for some 410 wins in 2016. “Based off these last couple months with the practices and that, I think we can win quite a few races this year,” he said while taking a break between classes. “I have a lot more confidence after my sophomore year in the car that had a little bit of ups and downs. We had some podiums last year, but then we had some runs where we really struggled. I think we are going to have a good consistent year for sure and I do not see why we cannot knockdown a handful of wins this year. That is the goal and the expectations.” As far as being in the battle for the title, he thinks it revolves around a good, solid start to the season, “It is going to be tough, but I think if we can just get a good start to the season and come out of the gate and be strong there is not going to be any catch up,” he said. “It is sort of like going to school. You want to have a good first test so you are not playing catch up the rest of the year. I think that is why we were successful last year and I think we are going to better it this year.” “We have been getting these cars ready to run the full USAC/CRA schedule,” the 22-year-old rising star said on the phone on last Thursday. “We have been doing a little bit of practicing just trying to get these things a little more fine-tuned. Some chassis adjustments trying to get things to react a little bit different and playing with some shock packages, too. We had a pretty solid season last year, but we are always looking to do better and to improve.” One thing about Jake Swanson is he is busy. Not only is he a sprint car driver and a student, but he also holds down two jobs. That is all going to change in the not too distant future. “This is actually my next to last semester in school,” Swanson enthused. “I have one more (semester) and should done in December and officially walk in May or June next year. I am looking forward to that and starting a career and having some extra time on my hands. Right now it is pretty busy having a couple of jobs, racing and going to school full time.” On one of the jobs he works with Tony Jones at Orange County Tank Testing checking air quality at gas stations. About a year ago he partnered with fellow racer West Evans are dealers for Advanced Racing Suspension and they build racing shocks. Glad to see the Moose Team at ISW last year such a friendly group of people.
I'd like to see them again this year @ ISW, but I know it costs alot of money to do this. Jake and his car owners said they had a blast.
