Putting together a plan for summer racing and coming from Michigan to Gas City, best way to Lawrenceburg. Looks like back roads from Pendelton on 9, or go through Indy to 74, or is there another way?
I'd personally go east from Gas City and hit highway 3 south to Greensburg and connect to 74 east from there. 3 is a straight road and minus New Castle and Rushville, it's all open highway as it bypasses around Muncie. Also between Muncie and New Castle, the speed limit is 60. Then take I74 east to Highway 1 South. BE CAREFUL though, most of the road has a 45mph speed limit and it's not very well marked. The troopers watch it like a hawk.
There are shorter routes but not faster routes than the highway mostly 70mph except around Indy. 69 south to 465 east or south to 74 east. To Rt. 1 Saint Leon exit, take that south 12 miles to Rt 50 which is about a mile an a half from the track.
I wouldn't take HWY 1, if it was the last road to take, but what do I know. I've only been going to The Burg from Greensburg since I was 3 years old, lol.
I was thinking shortest distance. Would you suggest following I74 to 275 south and then back tracking to Lburg? Or 421 down to either Napoleon and take 48(wouldn't suggest with a trailer), Osgood and take 350, or Versailles and take 50? I too have been traveling from Greensburg to that area since I was a baby, my Grandmother lived between Manchester and Aurora.
Unless you are towing a trailer Highway 1 from the I-74 St. Leon exit to Lawrenceburg is fine. I take that route almost every Saturday. The only exception would be if I need to stop in Harrison, or a semi is exiting the interstate in front of me & I don't want to follow them to the Burg.
That's the route that my dad usually takes when he's hauling grain down to the river for my cousin, so I can agree with you that it's a good stretch of road for someone towing a trailer, except that long down grade after South Dearborn High School.
