Leadership of The Greater Marion County UAW Cap Council and the United States Speed Association has announced that the UAW will serve as the Title Sponsor for the 2016 USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series. The racing series will be known as the UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget Series.

The name of the series is designed as a tribute to the men and women of the UAW who work in the automotive, aerospace and agricultural implement industry, proudly building the cars, trucks, farm machinery and aerospace vehicles American business and families trust.

An important feature of he UAW/USSA partnership is the involvement in the communities in which the men and women of the UAW live and work and the UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget Series races. Events such as Anderson Speedway’s Paint the Night Pink for Breast Cancer awareness and the March of Dimes tie in with the Payless Little 500 presented by UAW GM are examples of how the UAW/USSA partnership has grown to benefit our communities. For 2016 the UAW and USSA will be working to add a program to benefit veterans.

“It’s exciting to have a group like the UAW demonstrate their belief in the way we do business,” USSA’s President Don Kenyon explained. “Our partnership has grown and evolved and we believe our relationship can benefit everyone involved,” Kenyon went on to say.

The UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget Series is a racing championship for midget cars. The Series will be contested at Anderson Speedway, Columbus Motor Speedway, the Lincoln Tech Indianapolis Speedrome, the Sportsdrome Speedway and US 24 Speedway. The 2016 UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget Series will feature a 19 race schedule between April and October. The Series is the only Indiana based midget racing series that requires the competitors to race on both pavement and dirt tracks to win the driving championship. The UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget Series will kick-off on Saturday April 2, 2016 at Anderson Speedway.

UAW-represented workplaces range from multinational corporations, small manufacturers and state and local governments to colleges and universities, hospitals and private non-profit organizations.

The UAW has more than 390,000 active members and more than 600,000 retired members in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. There are more than 750 local unions in the UAW. The UAW currently has 2,500 contracts with some 1,700 employers in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
