I have not been to Indy in 10+ years, can anyone tell me what the access is like for this event? Do they still park cars in the infield?
Does a reg. ticket get you access to the pits for this Vintage event?
Any tips on clear vantage points for photos of on track action?
Planning the double Friday, Indy AM & Bloomington PM. Lots of walking on old legs.

Thanks
Frank

Check http://www.indianapolismotorspeedway...ing/tailgating for event info; looks like the infield is set aside for camping, and parking is in Lot 2 across Georgetown from the front straight. There are spectator mounds all around the road course that offer great views, but it will require some walking to get from location to location. I don't think the stands will be open (except by reservation, but the info is sketchy) but for the oval sessions there are a lot more mounds around turn 2, down the back straight into 3, and between 4 and pit in than there were the last time you were here. I think access to the cars is fairly open but I can't find specific information; based on the turnout last year I believe the "paddock" takes up a lot of real estate outside of the traditional Gasoline Alley. I heard it was a good event last year; I may pop over myself to check it out.

OK, here is what happened last year

Ticket got you full access to garage area-I don't think it did the pits.

Certain stands outside were open, as were stands along pit road.

Oval is more exhibition than anything, some drivers will gas it some on the chutes. There were a couple of stock cars getting after it.

Road course will contain more racing and speed.

Encourage you to go, be prepared for a long day, it's a lazy and fun day.

More info on the SVRA webste then on IMS's. Looks like Fri. and Sun. are oval days. Full print out of events and times on their site, most expensive on Saturday, but this event is worth it, time and money. They had a big shopping area in the east end of the garages also.

Thanks for the input! I had seen all the online stuff, the replies about the access and shooting sights - I appreciate that. Coming from MI., Puttnamville, Indy, Bloomington & Paragon, hope the weather holds up.

Don't know a whole lot, Was told last Sat that Greg Staab will be in a 73 Eagle Indycar. Shaw will be in Ford GT for Doran Racing.

Told the laps are green, Not paced.
Best day is friday and cars hit track at 8am

The oval laps last year were not paced and 'green', sort of

I believe they did not want passing in the corners. I don't know if they had a corner speed limit or not, but it sure seemed like it. I really didn't see anyone on the hammer in the corners

I received this from IMS if anyone else is interested:

Frank,

The only spectator cars permitted in the infield are those who are camping inside turn 3. Automobile parking is located in Lot 2, west of the main straightaway.

Anyone can walk into the infield with an admission ticket. You are permitted to enter all the paddock areas in the infield, but the pit area is restricted. However, there is a fan walk on Saturday at 12:30pm that allows you to enter the Pit Lane Grid.

Unfortunately, the fence surrounds the track for safety reasons, but if you are high enough up, you can shoot over it instead of through it.

Thanks,

TICKET OFFICE

"If you are high enough" Funny!
