Lew would have been as excited as anyone to see that race tonight.
Excellent track(Man, a track that good on day in August is unbeatable) For those who didn't know Lew, he was as fiesty of a person as you would want to meet and just as loveable. He loved racing and he loved life. He helped so many guys and he helped many who didn't know where the help came from. Lew was a man's man, but he also loved giving a chance to the average guy who he felt was willing to work hard. A little story on Lew: I first met Lew in the early 90's. We got to be good friends and during the '93 Chili Bowl we sat together on Sat. Night. We had sat through most of the program when he leaned over to me and said:"This S.O.B on the other side of me keeps crowding me, I have elbowed him a few times and if he keeps it up, I am going to deck him. Do you have my back if I do it? I don't want his friend to try and punch me from behind. I sat there a little shocked, but I said: "Whatever you want Lew, I got your back." You have to remember that he was in his late 70's or early 80's, I'm 23 or 24 and the guy he is getting ready to deck is in his early 50's. Luckily the guy moved and it didn't come to that extreme of a situation. Two things I do know for sure though: He would have busted that guy in the mouth and I would have had his back in case someone else tried to get involved. Everyone involved with tonight did Lew proud. Great job. |
