Walker looking for a Strong Run in Tulsa
By Jessica Jenkins After making his Chili Bowl debut a year ago, Gage Walker is eager to get back behind the wheel in one of the biggest races of the year. Going after the Golden Driller in 2014 was akin to being thrown to the wolves for the young driver from Indianapolis, but he is prepared to build on all he learned in his first attempt. “I’ve learned so much just from the one year I’ve raced there, so I’m really excited.” Piloting the #7X Spike/Esslinger/Impact/Wilwood Brakes/Walker & Sons midget, Walker will be competing Tuesday evening for one of the coveted three positions that transfer to Saturday’s A Main. With a wealth of dirt experience behind him, including the 2013 USAC Ignite Midwest Dirt Midget championship, he should be able to put himself in position for a good run on Saturday. Speaking of his goals for the Chili Bowl, Walker stated “Best case scenario, I’d definitely want to win, but I like to think realistically. Being only my first year in a full sized midget, I would be happy ending up in the top 50. Last year I was in the top 100 so if I could get in the top 50 that would put me in one of the B Mains on the final day.” Overall, he acknowledged making it to the C Main would be a reasonable goal, “That would be awesome for me.” |
