Back when we were just getting into racing I bought an old Quarter Midget and we headed up to Big Z for some rookie practice laps. Well they kind of frowned on him using my old Bell Helmet with a visor so we had to buy a helmet just to get him on the track. Harold Lambert the guy that sold parts and rented cars up their just happened to have a full face helmet that fit Doug just right. He had bought the helmet at a charity auction in order to sell it and make a few bucks. It belonged to a teenager sprint car racer just starting out by the name of Jeff Gordon. He did not have a lot of name recognition at the time. So that was Doug's first racing helmet.
