Lynda Gayle Owens Petty passed away today following a lengthy illness. Lynda was the bride of The King for well over 50 years and she was 72.
I had the distinct honor of meeting Mrs. Petty on 3 different occasions and she was as gracious as if we were long time friends. I was a Richard Petty fan at the age of 8 years old and read everything I could get my hands on about Richard and his family and racing team. Mrs. Petty was a special kind of lady in many ways not the least of which was her ability to cope with the strains on a marriage that being a racers wife can bring to bear. Linda's life overflowed with class and dignity all the days of her life and should be a role model of the caliber we all could aspire to.
May you rest in peace ma'am and may God Bless and comfort Richard and the Petty family.
Silver Crown Championship Dirt Cars properly driven on a one mile dirt track are classic poetry in motion. Using that analogy, Jack Hewitt is one of the greatest poets of all time.
