MTQRL SEASON OPENER JUNE 15th AT MONTPELIER MOTOR SPEEDWAY
The Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Jenmarco.com is set to open its 2013 race season on Saturday evening June 15th at the Montpelier Motor Speedway in Montpelier, Ind. With Mother Nature washing out the first three events on the schedule, including two at Montpelier, speedway and league officials determined that a rain date of June 15th would work for both parties.
Although three-quarter midgets have a long history of racing on the quarter mile Blackford County oval this will be the first visit for the MTQRL. Drivers Brett Hankins, Rick Robinson, Nick Speidel and Bobby Walton are expected to compete and all four will be looking to improve on their top five finishes in last year’s point standings.
The driver everyone will be looking to beat will be four-time and defending MTQRL champion Tate Martz. Martz has 17 MTQRL feature wins under his belt including a record breaking string of five in a row to close out last season.
Along with the MTQRL three-quarter midgets, UMP modifieds, super streets, thunder cars, FWD compacts and mod lites will also be racing. Adult general admission is $10 and children 12 and under are free. Pit admission is $25 and you must be 14 to enter. Gates open at 3:00 pm, hot laps are at 5:00 pm, and racing begins at 6:30 pm. Montpelier runs an efficient program with racing concluding before their 11:00 pm curfew.
As an added bonus to its competitors the MTQRL and its sponsors have formed a point fund that will reward those that race at the Montpelier Motor Speedway. The point fund will be distributed evenly amongst the car owners that participate in all of the MTQRL races at Montpelier. The fund started at $1,000 and Greg Staab has been hard at work soliciting additional sponsors and the fund is growing.
The MTQRL wishes to thank its sponsors Jenmarco.com, Jackson Oil & Solvents, Duane & Sonja Alexander, Tony Stewart Racing, Perfect North Slopes, RacePhoto1.com, Gunslinger, Elwood Sanitarium Haunted Attraction, Earl’s Indy, American Racer, Pace Performance Coatings, Indy Race Parts and the Tony Stewart Foundation. Special thanks also go out to Jet Star and owner Darryl Guiducci for being the presenting trophy sponsor at the Montpelier Motor Speedway.
