“HUT HUNDRED” AT TRI-CITY MOVES TO JULY 3; CREATES BIG INDEPENDENCE WEEKEND FOR USAC
Admin Account Admin Account on Jun 04, 2013 Article Date: 6/4/2013 Views: 24 0 0 Race fans will want to target the Independence weekend following the rescheduling of the prestigious “Hut Hundred” Midget race at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill. to July 3. The 61st running of the event was rained out May 31 but race organizers Kevin and Tammy Gundaker will now join a dynamite racing extravaganza with USAC and Powri partnering for the “Hut Hundred,” then combining for a two-night Midget meet at the spectacular Belleville (Ill.) High Banks July 5-6. Sandwiched in between is the July 4 AMSOIL USAC National Sprint race at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind. Honda USAC National Midget Champion Darren Hagen leads the series to its dirt-race openers next week as the five-race “Indiana Midget Week” opens in the Hoosier state. But the Independence weekend now becomes a focus for him and the rest of the series participants with lots of championship points up for grabs. “We are truly excited about this sensational weekend of racing for our St. Louis-area fans,” say the Gundakers, who also present the popular “Gold Crown Midget Nationals” at Tri-City in October. “We hope this becomes a destination event, one we can continue to build in the coming years. The Midgets always put on a great show here and with USAC and Powri’s cooperation we know it’ll be one of America’s top motorsports draws.” Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, Okla. won last year’s “Hut Hundred,” which moves to its new home at Tri-City this year.
