Can I mix and match brands of gears? For example, if I have a Brand A set 21 (19/29) 6.27 and Brand B set 35 (17/24) 5.80, can I mix the two (29/17) to make a 7.01 set? Or the other myriad combinations I may have just discovered.
Thanks.

You can try, then you'll know it won't work, but it'll be expensive! even with the same number of teeth, brand A and Brand B, one of each, the chances are good, they won't mesh correctly, and either destroy your center section, or even worse! Don't do it. Bob

Thanks for the reply. How about this then.
What if I have a Brand A set 21 (19/29) 6.27 and Brand A set 35 (17/24) 5.80, can I mix the two (29/17) to make a 7.01 set if they are the same brand?

Thanks. I am smart enough to know that I don't know. So I asked.

This is one of the things I love about racing and its people. What other sport could you get advice from another competitor? You sure won't see that happen in the stick and ball world!
