I only just found it interesting that Indycar which cost millions to sponsor can get such a low rating and viewership..
If Indycar cant get viewership on TV than imagine how hard its for the local racer. I looked also today at the
rating for NASCAR and they seem to be mostly down 500,000 to 1,000,000 viewers per race compared to 2011. I dont
follow indycar at road courses and didnt notice that the track race was months ago.
LONG BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Will Power drove from ninth to first to win IndyCar's last race, and Dario Franchitti said he used one of the best drives of his career to improve eight positions for a 10th-place finish.
Both drivers praised the April 1 race at Barber Motorsports Park one of the best in years for IndyCar, and they were certain fans were highly entertained with the product.
Then they found out very few ever saw the race.
IndyCar's television ratings are down through the first two races of the season, at a time the series believes it has its best competition in years and intriguing storylines that could attract a wider audience. But the race at Barber drew just a .25 on cable channel NBC Sports Network, and the Nielsen ratings company estimated it was watched live in only 218,000 homes.

Ummm, now while that might still be the case (?),that article is almost 3 months old.
The 2012 Indianapolis 500 recorded the series’ largest viewership for the race since 2008. The race picked up a 4.34 rating and was seen by nearly 6.9 million viewers.
If they keep putting on the entertaining races that they have lately, things should eventually improve all around!!
Anyone else ever have a hard time even finding what channel a race is on? Its no wonder shows like the Munsters,Andy Griffith and Wide World of Sports were watched by so many. We only had about 5 channels to watch when we were kids!

Should I watch a race that is not held on a real race course where there is less passing than a F1 race or two ladies that still look very hot.
You obviously didn't watch the Toronto race the last 2 years... Fair amount of passing in both!! Wish they would design all the streer courses like Toronto!
They can't all be good, and I too am no fan of street racing, but Indy Cars will always have my .00001 tv rating point.

This pretty much sums it up. Indycar puts so much emphases on the 500 but not enough on everything else. Most people watch the 500 and don't care about the rest of the schedule.
