Ideally were do you want to turn a motor for max performance?

Max RPM
Peak HP
Peak Torque
Some where in between?

Thanks,

Thanks,
These three guys are all related, and what you end up with, is the result of all three. Myself, I prefer a motor with good low end and midrange torque, that picks up the Hp on the top end. Rpm is an equation here also, and most cams run out of Hp and torque, long before they reach max Rpm, so does it pay to over rev one, or is that what you want to do, in my opinion, no, try to match your gear for max torque on the bottom, let the Hp pick up the mid range, and don't blow th damn thing up! Short stroke motors, usually have to be turned tighter, than long stroke one's, then someone that's a good tuner, can pick you a cam, that will do the job. I'd prefer torque over Hp anytime. Bob!

Ok straight up no BS. I tell my customers turn the motor to what ever it takes to make the car fast. I also ask them "what do you need a dyno sheet to tell me how fast the car is going?" it's just a piece of paper. You tell me how the motors doing, don't have me tell you how it's doing or going to do. The ONLY thing that matters is the stopwatch. Think about it. As defined HP = measured torque x RPM divided by 5252. At 5252 rpm the torque and rpm will ALWAYS be the same. Look at any dyno sheet. Then you multiply by a atmospheric correction factor depending on the weather.

Horsepower is used to sell things cars motors etc. Aint got much to do with race cars unless you are sellin somebody a motor. Tune the fuel and timing clean for every rpm and that is as good as it gets. We try to stay a couple of hundred rpm below the rev limiter.

The four valve over square motorcycle engine is not known for torque down low. It all happens up stairs. When your rev limit is 13,500 rpm's they just don't run too good at 7,500 rpm's. Now the under square 833 cc Honda does pretty good at 7,500 rpm's, but it is a little under powered compared to a 600 cc yamaha or Kawasaki, that make their torque at 10,000 rpm's and carry it up past 13,000+ rpm's. If you look at a dyno chart on these motors they make power until they hit the rev limiter.
