Did Gary B drive the #3 in the Sept 12, 1981 Silver Crown race at the Indiana fairgrounds? Official results page shows him in the #14 a team car with Steve Chassey. Thanks to all that repiles.

I know it was about the time he drove the #12 Delrose-Holt car.
1980 the #14 DH car was driven by none other than A. J. Foyt in the Hoosier Hundred. Foyt drove toward the front until he DNFed. |

FWIW. I don't know if this results page answers your question or not.

NO
Delrose Holt had 2 Grant King cars at their disposal and the 14 was supposedly earmarked for AJ Foyt. Foyt had his accident at Michigan shortly before the Hoosier Hundred so that was not going to happen. GB had driven the 1 car all year but this warm afternoon decided he liked the way the 14 ran just a bit better so he took it. Steve Chassey ended up driving the 1. Rich Vogler was in the Vance Aristocrat 3 and both chased Larry Rice to the checker. Though he did not win it is perhaps the finest drive I ever saw in Gary's long and storied career. Because he had the left front go flat prior to lap 20, a one armed man three wheeled that dirt car for 80 laps around the Indiana State Fairgrounds and nearly won the Hoosier Hundred. It was a sight to behold. |
