Today is my grandson Andrew's 6th birthday. He is doing remarkably well and for that I am so thankful. We visted recently and I was amazed at how he has grown both physically and emotionally. Watching him eat, no wonder his is growing like a weed. The boy can put away some groceries. In a very short period of time, he has developed into a young man.

He is in kindergarten and is reading and learning to write. He still has a huge interest in all types of cars. I suppose he gets that honestly since both his dad and uncle are automotive engineers.

His mother has been rather protective of him (rightfully so) but he now seems to be coming out of his shell. He has opinions and isn't afraid to share them with all who will listen. RacinBabe says that he gets that honestly as well.

I was surprised when I asked his mother if it would be okay to take him to the races. She isn't a race fan and really doesn't understand nor care about auto racing. She said that would be just fine so we are planning on taking him this summer. My hope is we can get him hooked on our favorite pastime.

With all this being said, we still proceed with our eyes wide open. ATRT is an extremely agressive form of cancer and strikes young children without much notice. Andrew has done very well with all of the treatments and for that we are so very thankful. We certainly owe so many of you folks here on the IOW board a great big thank you for following along on his journey. Your thoughts, prayers and encouragement have been very helpful. We also appreciate the monetary gifts, toys and racing shirts that a number of you have sent as well.

Andrew has a sign over his bed that I forgot to ask his mother where it came from. It says "such a large miracle for such a small boy". Yes, we do believe in miracles. Thanks for following along as we continue to Dream, Hope and Believe. Hopefully we can catch up at the races.

Trying to add his birthday picture here. I am technology challenged so I hope this works.

Here we go!!! The Birthday Boy!!!

And yes, I will agree, he is getting to the point where he will voice his opinions and he DOES come by it honestly!!!

Grandpa is right -- our recent visit was great! Andrew is a wonderful, energetic, cute 6 year old and we're so blessed to have him! Grandpa is going to have to watch out though....he forgot to mention our "date"!!!

I'm really looking forward to taking him to the races and getting to see his face when he sees all the cars and action!

Andrew has taken a shine to driving the go-karts at a local entertainment facility. After watching him pass 2 or 3 cars ahead of him then lap another, I'm thinking we may have a midget driver in our future!!!
