I have been setting here at my desk thinking about getting the old key board out and pounding it a little. We had our MMSA meeting yesterday and talked about getting ready to go up north and Celebrate New Years in lovley Fort Wayne Indiana a real garden spot that time of year.

I have also been reading about how much more fun it is racing without a wing. Well I can remember more than a few "Hot Shoes" running er down in the turn and slinging it waiting for that old side board to kick in. Well it never did and quite a few spun and a few managed to get upside down in the process. Racing with and without wings take special skills each. A few can switch back and forth between the two like changing socks others never do quite catch on. Driving without wings is not more fun if you do it right it is just another way of racing. It might be more fun backing it in and throwing dirt all over the place but when you are having fun doing that there will be some other driver keeping their tail under control and motoring right on by you.

There is an old racing saying "You can take the driver out of the dirt but it is hard taking the dirt out of the driver. At Ft. Wayne you will be learning two new things. Racing without wings and racing on pavement. The later is probably much harder than the first thing to get used to.

Dirt tires are much softer than asphalt tires probably three times softer.
Dirt tires are much bigger than asphalt tires. You just don't need as much tire to get hold of asphalt or for that matter concret and coke sirup. After the race when you walk across the track it will tend to suck your shoes right off your feet. When you go down in that turn throw er in that old wing wont be there and them big old donuts will be getting super grip, you probably won't spin out like on dirt, you will probably look more like a big old out of controll motorcycle leaning the wrong way.

I talked to KYRON he said he was ready to go. I'm probably going over to AJ Felker's and hit him up for some advice. What would be nice if some of the racers would get on line and get about a 200 hit topic about switching over from dirt to pavement to help some of us get ready for this fun outing.

Advice # 1--- go to your favorite indoor Kart track and spend some time and money learning you have to do it different.

Advice #2---Turn your old soft mini sprint into a go-kart the best way you can.

Now all we got to do is get about 198 or so more ideas and we should be ready.

When we switched the 600cc micro over to run Ft Wayne (on dirt tires) here is some of what we did...and the car really seemed comfy and got around there well...

Take some caster out of the front end...dirt caster will make the steering wheel way too heavy and will jack too much weight when the wheel is turned...I think we went from 8-10 degrees down to 4 or 5.....

Mount smaller tires on wider wheels on the rear to take some of the sidewall flex out...

Move the right side wheels way out and tuck the left sides way in...

Drop the car as low as possible...no more than 1/2 inch of cage tilt

Heavier springs all the way around along with stiffer shocks...one of the shock companies can give you a pretty good baseline to start with..

The caster was the last thing we did because the chassis manufacturer told us not to change that...they had zero experience with their cars on concrete/coke syrup...the car was fast but was a serious handfull until we took out the caster...once we did that the driver said it was like driving a cadillac..and his lap times got really respectable after that small change..

I wish I could give you some more specific numbers but this will kind of show you what you are trying to achieve...I am quite sure Felker will get you set up really well with your car..

Most of all....good luck and have fun...it is a totally different experience than what you are used to but it will be really fun for the driver if the car handles well.

First thing you would want to do for the "Eldora Race" is to see a doctor about "Gonad" enlargement treatment. Then I think I'll be working on speed shifting. Best I can remember you are a little weak in the speed shifting department also.

Figure about two shifts per lap 120 + MPH, or do it like box stock take 4 laps to get up to speed and carry a lot of momentum.

I know, I know, Every time you get in one of them ultra high torque R-1 they snap chains's. Sure looked like an oops moment to me. It did make for some great photo,s , the crowd loved it, took me a year to pay for it. Oh well that is racen in the big city.

NOW lets get back to the "RUMBLE" We have had some great stuff so far. What can the Bradleys come up with that cheap and easy to do?

Been there Done that! This is a whole new game. You 1/4 midget guys should have a lot of advice on indoor racing and set up. The first year I went to the Chili bowl We stayed at the Ramada and their Boiler went out. It was right in the middle of a Tulsa Blizard try 10" of snow and -5F it was a warm 40 F inside the center. Don't bet on Tulsa weather.

Here is some advice, Build solid steel nerf bars that stick out 3-4 inches past your tires, if your fortunate enough to start in the front for the feature then you may not need them but if not your gonna need them to beat your way up front.
