Whatever class a new car is added to becomes the fastest growing Sprint Car class on that day. Unless somebody adds two new cars to a different class on the same exact day. Then the other class would be the fastest growing class. Could happen, but unlikely.

I googled your question and found a PR release from Petaluma, CA. Petaluma happens to be a dirt track, though I did not google dirt track, I only googled "fastest growing sprint car class". I love dirt, but USAC Thursday Night Thunder is coming up July 7, 2011 at Lucas Oil Raceway park in Clermont which is attached to Indianapolis, Indiana, so if I win the lottery between now and then my car would have a pavement chassis, 410 aluminum block, Hoosier tires and a driver with both dirt and pavement experience. Last time I looked at the TSR website, there were lots of winged pics, but I'd have to win the lottery twice in order to make that happen. TSR knows a lot about Sprint car racing. This forum is awesome, but you'll probably get quite a few different answers to your question, thus causing you confusion in your quest to find the fastest growing Sprint car class.

The CA PR release that I found on google is from a track that runs 360s.

Anywhoo, hope this helps with whatever you're doing and see you at the races!

Ensign Earns Petaluma Victory

Sebastapol’s Geoff Ensign won the twenty- five lap WSS feature at Petaluma Speedway from a seventh starting spot, driving the Jim Finkenbinder owned car. Ensign took the lead from Santa Rosa’s Arvo Backhom on a lap nine restart and never looked back. Sewer Rat Plumbing’s Dave Press charged hard for the second spot followed by Backholm, West Construction’s Bob Newberry and Benicia’s Nick Larson.

A strong field of twenty-three Wingless Spec Sprints towed to Petaluma Speedway’s first Wingless Sprint race of the 2011 season. This is the twelfth racing season for the exciting, fast growing class of Sprints. The first season race is always fun: seeing new cars, new paint jobs, new faces and old friends. One new driver at Petaluma was Stockton’s Trevor Schmid who had a rough ride in the main event. Several teams struggled with mechanical issues throughout the evening, but the heartbreaker of the night was Jason McIntosh’s blown motor in qualifying.

One new change at Petaluma’s fast 3/8 mile track was group qualifying, with four cars going out at the same time. Fast qualifier for the night was Hunt Magneto’s Terry Schank with a quick time of 15.011.

Three eight lap heat races were run, the first won by Schank in flag to flag action. Schank was chased to the checkers by Lethal Motor Sports’ Bill Cornwell, Bob Newberry, Benicia’s young Nick Larson and rookie Trevor Schmid. Santa Rosa’s Arvo Backholm won heat two with. Stockton’s David Johnson, Red Line Oil’s Zack Lynskey, Dave Press and Santa Rosa’s Marcus Hardina rounding out the top five spots. The third heat win went to sophomore driver Matt Haulot of Cotati followed by Ensign, Napa’s Joe Stornetta, Bill Boosenbark and Dustin Baxter of Santa Rosa.

The feature event began with Press and Haulot of the front row. A front straight flip into turn one on the first lap unfortunately ended Trevor Schmid’s night early, but he did emerge from his car unharmed. Press led the restart and was then passed by Backholm, Hardina, Ensign and Newberry. The action slowed on lap nine for a rookie spin and Ensign throttled into the lead on the next lap with Backholm, Press and Schank close behind. Lapped traffic became a factor on lap ten and Press used it to his advantage to take the second spot from Backholm. Ensign’s lead grew as the laps wound down until a lap twenty three yellow for a spun car gave everyone a shot to regain some lost ground. Press was on Ensign’s bumper with a valiant effort to take the top spot but it was Ensign earning the first Petaluma WSS race of 2011. Press, Backholm, Newberry and Larson rounded out the top five.

A huge thank you goes to Petaluma’s staff for their outstanding hospitality and a fun beginning to the 2011 season. Drive safe, have fun and take care.

Summary:

Heat 1: Terry Schank, Bill Cornwell, Bob Newberry, Nick Larson, Trevor Schmid, Rick Sharp, Klint Simpson, T.Dupont
