JASON WILLIS WINS AT RUSHVILLE

Lawrenceburg’s Jason Willis came from deep in the field to score his first win of the season on Saturday night June 4th when the Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Vincennes University competed at the Rush County Fairgrounds in Rushville, Ind.

When the green flag waived to start the twenty lap feature polesitter Rob Walton of Florence, Ky. got the jump on Caleb Faulkner and took the lead. Morristown’s Brayton Leisure battled with Walton taking over the top spot on lap three. Leisure held the point until lap ten when he spun, handing the lead back to Walton.

On the restart Walton continued to lead with Rick Robinson (Columbus), Willis, Ronnie Combs (Greensburg), Nick Speidel (Muncie) and Rushville’s Tate Martz staging a five car battle for second place. Willis got by Robinson, and then Walton, taking the lead on lap fifteen. Willis then went on to lead the final six laps to take the win over Combs, Robinson, Martz and Speidel. Walton came home in sixth place followed by Faulkner and rookie drivers Jake Moore, Kyle McIntosh and Corey Eaglin rounding out the top ten.

Martz, the defending MTQRL champion and current point leader, turned a lap of 12.737 seconds in qualifications setting quick time. Willis won the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel and heat winners were Robinson, Combs and Willis.

Moore’s eighth place finish was the best among the rookie drivers and he was named the Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Race. Waldron’s Chris Mann was named the Duane & Sonja Alexander Hard Luck Driver. Mann was third in the standings coming into this race, suffered mechanical troubles in his heat, and was unable to start the feature. Brett Hankins won the drawing for the Jackson Oil & Solvents gift certificate.

The next race on the MTQRL schedule is Saturday night June 11th at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Ind.
