I am thinking about making my first trip to Tri-State next week for the Hut 100. Just looking for some opinions on places to eat along the way, what the track is like, seating etc. Just the basic stuff. I am coming from Michigan. Thanks for everyones input.

2-3 miles south of the track, just past the Interstate, there is a buffet I really like. Some IOW members agree, some don't. Never can remember the name, but it is on the left after you go under the Interstate. At the track, I prefer the west, backstretch side. On the start/finish line side the parking is all gravel until the grass in the area past the track and the sun is in your eyes. On the back, some parking is on gravel and some on grass. If you get there early enough, you can park in the shade of trees right across (west) of the parking lot. Pit entrance is on the front stretch side of the track, just past turn #1. Reserved seating with backs on the seats is available on the backstretch and is well worth it, $2 I believe. As to the track itself, it is one of the best you will ever see. Should be 3-wide racing during the early part, and perhaps for the lead at the end. No one knows what will happen, but the track will allow for that.

Good track info. Thanks. Since I am from Michigan any track is good. Unless your a pavement fan dont come to Michigan for a dirt race. I live 1/2 hr. from where the outlaws are running Saturday night and I am passing it up.

I sit on the backstretch as well. I did one race on the front and that was enough for me. The sun is too annoying to deal with for the hour and a half its up. Reserve seating is nice but with the economy the turnout hasnt been that great so you can still get good seats.


The track will/should be awesome. It always is. Some people dont like the "tractor show" but it helps get the track in prime condition for the longer feature races. Aside from the cushion it will build up in the later part of the feature it will still be insanely fast. Check out some of the videos of the past Hut 100 and you will see what I mean.

its funny. As a kid, dad and I always sat on the 41 side of the track. THe sun was always a problem but we always sat on that side. I think he knew more locals on that side. Since I don't know many people in that area except my family I sit on the backstretch side. I really prefer it. It is also cool to watch a sprint or a midget haul it into turn three.

Food wise I can't say I remember know much close. I usually eat in Evansville and usually eat a Turoni's Pizza down by University of Evansville.

Unfortunately no Hut for me this year. i have to stay in Ohio.

What part of Michigan? I used to be the track announcer at Butler Motor Speedway in Quincy. I moved to Southern Indiana 6 years ago and became the track announcer at Tri-State Speedway. There's a hometown pizza place in the little town just north of Haubstadt

This place came recommended a couple of years ago, now it's our regular pre-race dinner. Good stuff
