Looks like the deal is done at Oswego, track officially changed hands this week. Thank you to the Torrese family for stepping in and saving the old Steel Palace. I spent every Saturday night as a youngster at Oswego Speedway from the early 1970's to the late 1980's. So glad it is not going the route of other tracks being torn down for shopping malls or housing, etc. Oswego has an important place in short track racing history, glad to see it will live on some more. I encourage all fans to get together this year and really show up in force to support Oswego this summer & beyond. Even though I live in Speedway, IN I will make the long trip up there this Labor Day for the Classic. If you never have been to Oswego, you owe it to yourself to check it out. One of the fastest short tracks in America. Thanks again Torrese family. Best of luck in your new endeavor.

Oswego will always be my favorite race track. Made my first visit to the Steel Palace in '72 at age six when my dad worked on a super that raced there that season. Went just about every week as a spectator from '86-'89. Best weekly racing I've ever seen took place at Oswego during that period. Glad to hear it's still going to continue.

The wondes of modern technology allowed me to attend the gathering at Lighthouse Lanes last night to introduce the new owners of the speedway to the car owners, drivers and general public from 2448 miles away. Isn't the internet wonderful? Thanks to Bobby G and his Wailing Wingside Up program for covering last nights event.
Eric and Johnny Torrese's ties to Oswego Speedway go back to 1952 when their Dad, John Sr. was winning on the dirt track and he continued to win features in 1953 when the track was paved. Johnny Jr. has driven both non-wigned and winged supermodifieds which will bring first hand knowledge of what the competitors go through every week to be at the track. I wish the Torrese's all the best with their new endeavor. Patti |
