What is the difference in the USAC National Midgets and the D1 midgets ,that were scheduled at Montpelier on 4-16-2011?

There is no difference. They are still full Midgets. It is just a more local series for the lower budget teams to compete.

I think one of the biggest problems with midgets is there are so many names and so many formulas that no one can attract a full field, or understand which is what. And that's just within one sanctioning body.

What kind of following does this series expect to have? Obviously they (USAC) wouldn't go into a business venture like that without having some idea of the support they would get. Montpelier is what I consider my home track, even though I now live over 2 hours away from it, and I'm wondering how successful the 5 shows they have with this series will be. They've had a history of being burned by new series or promotors before (X2RA, ASCT, ICS Crate late models, and the world famous "X-Plex"). I know in this area promotors seem to be under the impression that anything to do with USAC or sprint cars will turn to gold, but last year when they had the focus series they barely had enough cars for a heat race. Now they have not only the focus series, but they have the focus "young guns" that they are also packaging together with the D1 and Ford Focus Series events. Montpelier did get a decent group of midgets last year with the AMCT, but quite a few of them were mini-sprints. Not trying to pass judgement on the group before they have even started, but I'm curious about what my home track is going to get out of this.

Dose this mean the Usac National series midgets, and the D1 midgets will race for the same points fund? It seems like you could pick and choose where you race.

The D1 midget series was fromerly referred to as the USAC Regional Series. The past few years they have only run on the pavement. Im excited to see what kind of car count this series will provide. With the majority of their dirt races being run against some for of USAC National points races I'm hoping that that will entice some of the low budget guys to come out and race regularly. The D1 series is built as a place to develop younger drivers and hopefully that will be the case....

OK.. Here is my take on what has been posted on this thread and the D1 Series USAC Midgets. First of all, we plan to run several of these races. We have very few choices these days, so we will see how this series plays out. There has been very little (that I know of) publicity about this series from the creators, so we will see what lies ahead. I've tried to piece together what I know about it, so here goes:
BTW... What does D1 stand for????
First off.... Several posters on IOW have called this series a low budget deal or for low budget teams. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Would somebody please come forward and tell us all what is low budget about it??? Yeah, what is it that's low budget? TIRES?? NO! The purple tire SP2 which lasts about one race these days is the mandated tire of choice for this series..... same tire and SAME PRICE as used in the USAC National Series, so cross that off your list. Yep, get out your wallet and pay the price.
Engines. hahahahahahahahahaha I'm totally confused here. The national series is using a rev limiter to help keep the costs down. So... is that being used in this D1 series? NO!!! Sounds to me like that's sending anything but a low budget message.
Location of races. There are several dirt races in Indiana but if it's low budget, who can afford to travel to Sun Prairie for all those races, pay all the Illinois and Chicago tolls plus $4+++ gasoline/diesel.
Low budget teams participating. You have got to be kidding here. LOLOLOLOLOL I was at the Toledo Silver Crown/regional pavement midget show last October. hahahahahahaha Low budget teams?? I don't think so. If fact, you will probably see some really expensive rent/lease a rides, sugar daddies that are paying somebody 6 figures for season midget rides. Low budget again.... I'm on the floor laughing!!
Now here is the only low budget scenario that I can find for this series and that is the purse and the personnel. I have not seen a published purse but if it's similar to last years payout, it will be a low budget purse for sure. SURPRISE!!! And you will not see the famous 18 wheeler at these races nor 10-15 officials falling all over each other or racing around on golf carts. Probably 1-2 pit stewards and that's it. Line em up... race.... throw the checkered.... and... out of town they go.
Low budget???? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

I think Don makes some valid points....honestly I like the idea of a combo car as utilized in the ford focus cars. If there was an engine package that had about 100+ more HP than a focus motor that was sealed I think that could be a truely fun budget type car. It allows you to run dirt and pavement with the same car as well as have more power. I just think the focus cars are a little underpowered JMO.
