Montpelier Motor Speedway Releases 2011 Schedule, Increased 2011 Weekly Payout and 2011 Track Championship Payout, & Special Shows

When the green flag finally waves on the opening night of the 2011 season, a historic season will be underway for the 108 year old facility as the Montpelier Motor Speedway in Montpelier, Indiana will begin its 25 consecutive season as a dirt track operation. Harold and Lori Hunter, promoters of the speedway the past two season, have purchased the speedway and have immediately began facility improvements with a new restroom facility, extensive track surface work, a drainage system in the infield, pit seating, sound system, and improved pit drainage along with many other projects on the docket to be completed.

Weekly Classes

The ever popular UMP DirtCar Modifieds will be on hand for 28 shows during the 2011 season. Joining the UMP Modifieds weekly will be the growing Super Stock division which blends street stocks from Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan together for very competitive racing. The Thunder Car division will return to the regular racing schedule in 2011 also. The speedway will also again be the home of the Indiana ModLite Series with the ModLite division.

Weekly Payout

A major highlight for competitors and fans at the speedway this season will be the greatly increased weekly purse. Fan and driver support the past two seasons have enabled the Hunter family to increase the weekly purse in the speedway's 3 main classes by $100-$20 per position throughout most of the field from 2nd place to 20th place along with the tow money receiving a well-deserved increase as well. Each class will compete for the weekly guaranteed purse of:

UMP Modifieds - $600 To Win | $75 To Start | $30 Tow Money
Super Streets - $300 To Win | $50 To Start | $25 Tow Money
Thunder Cars - $250 To Win | $40 To Start | $25 Tow Money

The 2011 increase is the third purse increase competitors have seen from the speedway the past three seasons.

A complete rundown of the payout schedule per class and position can be found on our website under the payout link.

Track Championship

Winning a track championship has always carried a great deal of prestige and this season the Hunter family felt it was important to greatly increase the points fund to reward drivers in the points battle. For the first time, the Montpelier Motor Speedway will award trophies and a much larger monetary payout for point’s positions 1-10 in each class at season's end. Racers will also note a healthy payout and increase for running for a track championship at the speedway in 2011.

UMP Modifieds - $1200 To Win Track Championship | Payback and trophies to top 10 positions
Super Streets - $600 To Win Track Championship | Payback and trophies to top 10 positions
Thunder Cars - $500 To Win Track Championship | Payback and trophies to top 10 positions
Mod Lites - $250 To Win Track Championship | Payback and trophies to top 10 positions

A complete rundown of the payout schedule per class and position can be found on our website under the payout link.

Bonus Pay

During the 2011 season, the speedway will again offer the opportunity for bonus pay when divisions reach a certain car count. The UMP Modified division will compete for $1000 To Win when 35 UMP Modifieds sign in for competition. Speedway officials decreased the required car count from 40 modifieds in the 2010 season to only 35 in the 2011 season. The 2010 season saw the UMP Modified division car count hover in the 30's at numerous races, so drivers should have an opportunity to compete for the $1000 prize throughout the season. The Super Street division will compete for $400 to win with a complete field of 20 cars.

UMP Modifieds - $1000 To Win with 35 Modifieds
Super Streets - $400 To Win with 20 Super Streets

Schedule Highlights

Montpelier Motor Speedway Shootouts
$1000 To Win UMP Modifieds | $500 To Win Super Streets | $350 To Win Thunder Cars | Mod Lites

Montpelier Motor Speedway Early Season Shootout - April 23
Montpelier Motor Speedway Mid Season Shootout - Date TBA
Montpelier Motor Speedway Late Season Shootout - September 24

A new addition to the schedule this season is the Montpelier Motor Speedway Season Shootouts which will bring the region's best drivers to the speedway to compete for a special purse and ultimate bragging rights. $1000 To Win will be on the line for the UMP Modified division with the Super Streets racing for $500 To Win, and Thunder Cars competing for $350 to win.

USAC Midget Triple Headers

Among the highlights of the 28 race 2011 schedule will be the return of midget racing under United States Auto Club (USAC) sanctioning with 5 dates. The full size/full power USAC Mopar D1 Midget Series, will visit the speedway on April 16, June 25, August 13, September 10, and October 1. The high horsepower/low weight open wheel race cars are capable of speeds similar to a full size sprint car and always put on action packed racing. Joining the USAC Mopar D1 Midget Series will be the USAC Ford Focus Midgets and USAC Young Guns Midgets. The UMP Modifieds will also be on the card for these nights along with hot laps and features only for the Super Street and Thunder Car divisions to maintain a timely program.

UMRA TQ Midgets

The UMRA TQ Midget series will be entering its 51st year of operation during the 2011 season, and the Montpelier Motor Speedway will host the historic three-quarter midget series on May 21, July 16, and September 24.

Monster Mash & Fall Tune Up Finals

The Monster Mash will returns for its 5th annual event on Saturday, October 29 for an afternoon show and serves as one of the last racing events across the Midwest. The 2010 Monster Mash filled the pits with 106 cars on hand to compete for the Monster Mash crown in the speedway's regular weekly divisions. The Monster Mash Fall Tune-Up show will be held again a week prior to the Monster Mash on October 22 and always attracts new competitors to the speedway.

Other Special Shows or Classes Still Tentative

Continue to check our website and Facebook for updates and additions of special shows or classes throughout the season.

Competitor's License

During the 2011 season, competitors will be required to purchase a competitors license to race at the Montpelier Motor Speedway. The cost is $20 per the entire season and is required for the driver only. 100% of the proceeds from this program will be returned to the competitors through the newly established points fund. The Hunter family felt it was important to hold the current pricing of a pit pass at $25.

Leave any thoughts of a cooler behind, not in the stands, or in the pits. I remember going to Atomic Speedway, the last time, always before it had been OK, but when we got there, there was a lot of traffic going OUT, and the biggest mound of coolers you ever saw, heaped up along the drive back to the track, needless to say, there is a trucking company using that ground now. Some tracks allow coolers while others do not. It is always nice to be able to take some food/drinks in with you but it doesn't stop me from attending a track that doesn't allow it. A number of years ago, Gas City allowed them and then they changed policy. You would have thought that the world was coming to an end. Same when Kokomo switched. Take a cooler and leave it in the car for intermission or on the way home.

However, with that being said, I hope that tracks take a stronger look and change policy on allowing the boat seats, mini loungers, stadium seats that absolutely crushes the folks sitting behind. Most bleachers aren't made for these types of seats. On a regular night when seating is available, I have no problem. On special event nights when every seat is needed, promoters PLEASE keep them out of there.

Mike, while I kinda agree with ya, and if I want an adult beverage, I'll buy one of theirs, but to not let the racers even take water in, is almost something that should be looked into, safety wise, if I can't take WATER, to drink, into the pits, I'll probably turn my rig around, and go somewhere else, some of them will let safety issues go, but your A is out if you get caught trying to "smuggle" in drinking water, JMHO Bob

Im with you Bob. Coolers not allowed in the stands is one thing, but not in the pits is a little over the top.

Regardless of the other issues, which I'm sure will get worked out, one way or another, you have to applaud a family that invests what looks like a good chunk of money to buy and improve a race track. Especially in a challenging economic time.

Bob,

I only know about the grandstands not the pit area. In my opinion, I believe that they should re-think this point and allow racers in the pit area to bring water ONLY in.

Now, I also need to apologize for hijacking this thread. I certainly didn't mean to steer this in the wrong direction. Sorry Brian.

Oh, no doubt, they gotta be awfully brave, lucky or foolish, to take on a challange of this magnitude, or have a lot of faith, or knowledge, deep pockets aside, I'd think buying a race track, in todays diminished average of expendable income, not to mention the outlook, threat, or promise of outa site energy costs, is one big STEP to a small fortune. Yes, I commend them for their attempt, but, someone will no doubt come out smelling like a rose. Still need to lighten up on the people paying in thru both gates. JMHO Bob

Oh OH, Mike, I guess I'm the one that hijacked the thread, and I do appologize for that, it is, and it isn't a big issue, but I do like to take my own, cold water in the pits. Sorry Brian! Bob
