Winner drove an Edmunds VW, not a Kurtis. Quite possibly purchased from the 3K (as in Kenyon) shop in rural Lebanon, IN.

Well I was meaning the track nosed car at the first of the video. I know there were still Kurtis cars running in the midget class in the 80's. I'm not by any means an expert on midgets. But I would like to know what that car was so I can get it right .

The orange 9 that Joe Saldana was driving was one of "Higgies Piggies" owned by Dan Pool. The car (and others like it) was built by Bob Higman. Bob passed away January 13th of this year. He was a fixture at midget races for decades, and I think all of us old farts miss seeing him "wheeling" around the pits at events like the Chili Bowl, etc.

By chance, I looked up Bob Higman on the net for his phone number 2 years ago. I was looking for info on ross steering boxes, like out of a forklift.
Man was I in for a nice surprise! That was truly, sincerely, one of the most rewarding conversations I have had with someone in the racing world. He told me aboout getting Buzz Barton out of jail on his wedding day, Norm Hall and the "Nuthing Special" Kuzma, and enlightened me about a few things going on within the world of Indy these days. I learned about his "tubing bender", where he got his first ross steering gear, and why he liked those over a Schroeder box. Wish I had talked to him more. MUCHO RESPECT FOR THE LEGEND OF BOB HIGMAN. Thanks for posting this one. My 21st birthday. I remember being really concerned about my hero as he took a nasty tumble right before this. Nothing better than the midgets at The Action Track.
