I was researching a couple of photos of Tom Custer from Rock Island, Illinois tonight and I came across the information that he had died 8 December 2010 after a long battle with COPD. He won several races in IMCA sprint cars and was the 1963 MVCC Sprint Car Rookie of the Year finishing 3rd in the points. I have photos of him in the "Little Red Wagon" #16 Sprint in Des Moines, Iowa in 1967 and a #21 Sprinter at Tampa, Florida in 1974. His son-in-law was looking for information on his career on the H.A.M.B. board.

Tom drove some for Willard Bess of Fairbury, IL about 30 years ago. One night Tom and Willard's son Roger (one of my co-workers at Caterpillar) were at Knoxville, IL (IMCA, I think) with another owner's sprinter and I "gophered" for them.
Tom was a really nice guy. Sorry to hear of his passing.
RIP, Tom
