Walking about the pits, It appeared we had more Wings than NW but that was a miscalculation I thought 30 wing 25 NW but it was the other way around. Clearly we had a great field of NWers I didn't know many of the winged guys.
Start of the night they announced 25 Wing All Stars. I was like, We used to have over 50 for the HFC and some invaders come in like a swindell, Kinser or Jacobs. So much for that. I wasn't bummed but it clearly seemed the NW would outclass what was billed as the HFC WINGED show and in fact in the heats it was clearly shapping up that way. 4 heats vs three, many passes and side by side battles in the NW heats. While the wings had two position changes in the top five of all three heats combined. NW had a Consi. Wicked Flip by Brandon WHitted, who I think was the victim of a Clarke bonzai earlier in the year. Glad he was ok. Features, Track was perfect, two groove and side by side racing in the Wings, Dean Jacobs from 20th to 4th, Shaffer from sixth or eighth to win. Sauder impressive as I thought he was at Eldora till he crashed there. Gravel flip on lap two eliminated what I thought was the best competetive car but the race still was good. NW the track started good with cars running all over. Hunter ran up from fourth or sixth to grab the lead. Damion took a few laps to work his way up for the chase and pulled even several times up until about half way. The track slicked off an went all cushion in which Hunter took command and never looked back. Daron Clayton starting second was good until about halfway and then started bouncing around on the cushion, hoping over it and having a tough time. He fell back to fourth. Took a long time but Blake Fitzpatrick came from mid pack to third, Moffatt drew 8th and finished sixth He can't get a good draw even when someone else does it. Burdette fell way back, I thought in heats he might be fastest on the track. ![]() A very good crowd, Id say equal with sprintweek but I fear winged racing has itself way to spread out with the 410,360.305 and its hurting counts badly. Was good to see Danny Smith out and about, He says he starts therapy monday and hopes to make FL openers. A great night of racing at a great track and GREAT WEATHER! C U next season!
