On the radio in Indy today more than one commentator has talked about the 13 year old who died in a crash during the warm-up for his race. I've always been scared that this would happen to a sprint car driver and what the repercussions would be. I am afraid that the legislature will become involved and even though it happened in a motor cycle race any legislation that would come out of this would include sprints, midgets etc. What do you guys think.

This is a very tragic situation. I have always felt that until you turn 16 you should stay out of full size race cars. And age 18 to run on large tracks or places where the speeds exceed a certain point.

John,

They have enough issues to worry about, they don't need to get involved in this. The young man and his parents were aware of the dangers and accepted it. Everytime something goes wrong, so many jump on the bandwagon to have the government intervene. They can't fix the problems before them now, how will they ever solve another issue? Enough said.

I read about this on the internet early Sunday first as a injury and then as a death.I wonder why there was no talk of this on the speed report or on wind tunnel last night?I dont think the govt needs there hands in this like they are in everything else.I hope it doesnt happen that way but nothing surprises me anymore.
I always hated that they cant wait to make this a story when something bad like this happens but when some kid turns out good because his parents kept the kid out of trouble all his life by making something of himself.
I feel for the young mans friends and family.

There are dangers in anything you do.

I have a buddy who had his son die a couple of years ago.......during high school practice for FOOTBALL. Basketball and soccer players have died playing and cheer leading is the most dangerous......

Let the boys race!!

I agree but the government has a way of getting into things that should be left alone. I assume this kid was emancipated so they should not have the legal right to go after his parents. It will be interesting to see what comes of this.

My family raced motocross for years, my son started at age 4. Over the last couple years I know of 5-6 kids 12-15 yr olds being killed while racing motocross a couple destined for Pro contracts, and a young lady this year at the National Championships. It is sad for sure, but the good lord must have a plan for them in his kingdom, or it would never have happened.
