I have to give them credit as I thought this nonwinged pavement weekly sprint deal would flop big time but the car counts keep going up and I hear next year they are upping the pay. Any results from tonight?

Tommy Fedewa won an action packed feature. Pretty good show.

Just walked in the door, doing my post race ritual of importing photos.
At the end of July/beginning of August I shot six straight days of dirt. Last Friday I shot a template late model race at Toledo (pavement for those who don't know). The most rational explanation I had was that going to a pavement race gave me the chance to get some of the mud off my racetrack shoes! Not the case tonight, I had a great time, brought a 70 yr old to his first nonwing race and he loved it. Racing was good, with the winged pavement guys heading to Slinger tomorrow, I thought Spartan may have actually had a few more cars. Charlie Schultz finished 2nd in his first race at Spartan since a winged 2001 race. Pictures to follow.

Top 5 were right there together for most of the race. The young gal who races there lost her brakes in an altercation. Jim Heeney led for a while then was trapped behind a lapped car. It was definetly a good night even enjoyed the other classes that raced tonight. Tommy Fedewa won, Gary Fedewa was in attendance but not racing. I hope they keep this class I really enjoyed it.

My first ever visit to Spartan last night and it was a great sprint car A Main. Fedewa,Schultz, McCune, and Heeney had an excellent battle upfront. I hope they do keep running sprints next season. They still have 1 sprint show yet this season so you might wanna check it out.......

The owner/promoter Jim Leasure confirmed that they are going to run Sprints again next season. He just bought this track this year, put in new old grandstands (from MIS), and seems to be doing a pretty good job. One thing I like is running the sprints first. For some reason a lot of promoters don't understand that the travellers like/need to leave early then watch a never ending street stock race. |
