Ronnie Combs became the eighth different winner in eleven races on Saturday night when the Midwest TQ Racing League™ presented by Vincennes University competed at the Rush County Fairgrounds in Rushville, Ind.

The event was the Frank Ramsey Memorial and was held in the honor of the late car owner who passed away in April 2009. Frank and his brother Roger formed Ramsey Brothers Racing and with driver Tate Martz won the inaugural MTQRL championship last season.

Martz, in the Ramsey Brothers Racing entry, set quick time with a lap of 12.798 seconds around the fairgrounds oval. Kenny Byrge won the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel and heat winners were Bobby Walton, Brayton Leisure, Caleb Faulkner, Chad Rouse and Rick Robinson.

Nick Speidel and Kyle Lux would start the 25 lap feature event from the front row but it was third starting Jason Willis taking the lead on the opening lap. With Willis in the lead a trio of drivers that started in the fourth and fifth rows, Combs, Martz and Robinson, began to work their way through traffic to the front of the field. The caution waived for Speidel with fourteen laps in the books and Willis still held the point with Combs now right behind in second place. On the restart Combs got under Willis on the backstretch, went low in turn three, and took the lead. Combs went on to lead the final eleven laps taking the win over Willis, Robinson, CJ Leary and Martz.

Combs’ pass on Willis for the feature win earned him the INOX Slick Move of the Race. Robinson passed six cars to capture the Ward’s Apparel Hard Charger and Leary was the Tony Stewart Rookie of the Race. Leisure crashed in his heat and was unable to start the feature and was named the Duane & Sonja Alexander Hard Luck Driver.

Willis moves to the front of the Tony Stewart Foundation Leader of the Pack standings, Leary leads the Tony Stewart Rookie of the Year standings and Martz leads the Ward’s Apparel Hard Charger and Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel standings. Martz also leads the season standings while Leary and Willis are engaged in a tight 6 point battle for second place.

The MTQRL is off next week but returns to action on Saturday August 21st at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Ind. The days activities start with a race car display at the Grover Museum, 52 W. Broadway, Shelbyville, Ind., between noon and 2:00 pm. The museum will be serving free Coke and root beer floats in the 1904 Emporium on the Streets of Old Shelbyville. The cars will then head across town to the fairgrounds where practice is at 5:00 pm, qualifications at 6:00 pm and racing begins at 7:00 pm.
