Defending champion Tate Martz of Rushville was the feature winner on Saturday night when the Midwest TQ Racing League™ presented by Vincennes University opened their season at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Ind.

Martz took the lead from polesitter Tim Lynch on lap 3 and led the final 23 laps to record the fifth feature win of his career. Chasing Martz across the line were fast qualifier Kenny Byrge, Lynch, Chris Mann and Nick Speidel. Rounding out the top ten were CJ Leary, Chris Guinn, Kevin Rice, Chad Rouse and Tad Cheek.

Heat winners were Kyle Lux, Speidel, Rick Robinson and Caleb Faulkner while Martz won the “Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel.”

Leary, competing in his first three quarter midget race, was the “Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Race.” Leary was also named the “Ward’s Apparel Hard Charger” after passing 13 cars in the feature.

Faulkner, also a rookie, made a last lap pass to win his heat and was awarded the “INOX Slick Move of the Race.” Veteran Matt Lux suffered engine failure and was named the “Duane & Sonja Alexander Hard Luck Driver.”
