Herrera Joins Forces with New Mexico Wing Warriors for USA Raceway Battle!

Kevin Montgomery Tucson, Arizona (March 30th, 2010) – Rick Ziehl cruised to his first 2010 ASCS Southwest Wing victory just weeks ago as he topped the 25-Lap feature at USA Raceway. Ziehl expects to return to victory lane this weekend but not without a fight and the fight will tough as a cast of New Mexico Wing Warriors set out to stop him.

The Contenders:

A tough field of Arizona competitors await the challenge from the east as Arizona native Calvin Landis returns from a long stint of Knoxville Raceway circuits to lead the Arizona charge with RJ Johnson along side. Landis, driving for car owner Gary Williams, plans to run several of the ASCS Southwest bouts and likely will be a contender for the Championship battle.

Johnson sits third in ASCS Southwest points after a great outing in his second ever Wing appearance. Ricky Johnson and crew worked feverishly after deciding to debut the Bobby Martin owned machine on Thursday, just days before the first race. After an overwhelming response from his Facebook survey, RJ gave the thumbs up to bolt on the wing and the elder Johnson went to work converting his non wing car into a Winged machine complete with wing short nerf bars.

John Gaston finished in the top five in the season opener as he nursed the Kronik Energy car with a broken power plant to a respectable 4th place finish just ahead of Kaylene Verville. Gaston made the best of his outing as he emerged from his ride with an oil soaked Kronik uniform but assured everyone that the new crew will have plenty of energy to bolt in a new power plant for this weekend.

The Invaders:

Although Ziehl hails from Las Cruces, he is considered to be somewhat of a home town hero for Tucson’s USA Raceway. With that said, Ziehl will lead his fellow New Mexico hot shoes of Johnny Herrera, Josh Hodges and John Carney II to his home track to do battle with anyone who graces the Tucson clay.

Herrera and the young Hodges, who both ran at The Devils Bowl Spring ASCS National’s, will make their return to Tucson for the first time in 2010. Both are expected to make a handful of 2010 appearances including the 43rd Annual Western World Championships.

The Weeks Ahead:

April 17th will mark the return of Both the ASCS Non Wing Sprint Cars and The UMP Modifieds in a rare double header. Added to an already incredible event will be the 2nd edition of the Sunoco Fuels Autograph Challenge and The Party in The Pits. The first 100 people to USA Raceway on April 17th will receive a free t-shirt and their chance to win a trip to Legoland California. After the event fans will be invited to join race teams in the pit area for a BBQ and a chance to meet and mingle with favorite drivers.
