USAC, WOMS JOIN FORCES FOR 2010
USAC, WOMS JOIN FORCES FOR 2010

USAC and the Wolverine Outlaw Midget Series, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, will combine efforts in 2010 to present regional Midget racing in the Great Lakes area. The USAC/WOMS Regional Midget series will encompass events in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.

“Michigan has always been a great racing state,” says USAC President/CEO Kevin Miller. “The first USAC race in Michigan came just a month after our 1956 sanctioning debut and we’ve conducted races at 24 different Wolverine facilities. This new association will certainly attract new fans to USAC/WOMS events and we look forward to a lasting and productive relationship with WOMS.”

“We’ve enjoyed working with USAC at Berlin Raceway in recent years and we are excited about joining forces with USAC to give the Great Lakes fans the best in Midget racing,” says WOMS President Mike Strevel. “We recognize USAC’s tremendous contribution to the sport in the areas of safety and rules administration and have some great plans for 2010.”

“USAC Developmental Series Director James Spink added: “This is a natural extension of USAC’s operations, one we certainly value, and one which will obviously create spectacular racing and championship competition. The recent race at Berlin Raceway was yet another fine example of the competitive nature of racing in the Wolverine state.”

WOMS debuted in 2003 and for three years operated as a “winged” Midget organization. As a cost-cutting measure the wings were removed after the 2005 season. WOMS driving champions have included Gary Harrell (2003), Ike Beasley (2004), Nick Mitchell (2005 and 2006), Chris Hettinger (2007) and Doug Dietsch (2008 and 2009). Ironically, Dietsch won this year’s title by a single point over Jim Anderson, much the same as Cole Whitt’s one-point title in last year’s USAC National Midget Series.

Principals of both organizations are working on the 2010 racing schedule and it will be announced when finalized.

My question is are they going to do stupid stuff like scheduling against their national series as they did on numerous occations in 2009. The count certainly suffered
