WSVX radio presents an evening of “Racing & Rhythm” on August 22nd when the Vincennes University Midwest TQ Racing League competes at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Indiana. Music will fill the historic grandstand as the Shelby Community Band will present two mini concerts during intermissions.
Saturday’s race is the third of four scheduled VUMTQRL events on the ¼ mile fairgrounds oval. The first event, the Salute to Wilbur Shaw on June 13th, was rained out after qualifications. On July 1st, during the Shelby County Fair, Tate Martz led the final 13 laps to record his first feature win of the season over Tim Lynch, Kenny Byrge, Nick Speidel and Tad Cheek. That night Martz also set a new track record turning a lap of 17.144 seconds during qualifications. Brett Hankins won the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel and heat winners were cheek, Joe Miller, Martz, Byrge and Jason Willis
On tap Saturday will be practice, qualifications, two rounds of heat races, a B Main (if needed) and a 25-lap feature. The pit gate opens at 3:00 pm, practice is at 5:00 pm, qualifications at 6:00 pm and racing begins at 7:00 pm. Pit passes are $20 and grandstand tickets are $8 for adults (12 and over) and $5 for children.
Any fans or competitors holding tickets from the rained out event on June 13th may redeem them for entrance Saturday night or the next Shelbyville race on September 12th.
