I also just saw the coverage of this accident on the news, those fans are lucky. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the injured. Wishing them a speedy recovery.

For those who don't know, the speedway also had a problem earlier this season when a spectator deck on the scoring tower collapsed. It hurt a few people and ultimately cancelled the racing for the evening. THey have had some serious bad luck this season.

Wanted to take a minute to thank those of you that have posted on this thread. I'd also like to expound and clarify the unfortunate accidents that have occured this year. But first, I'd like to say that my thoughts and prayers are with those injured in Saturday's accident. Second, I want to report that there were twelve people injured with ten transported to three local hospitals. Six were juveniles who were ALL treated and released Saturday night. Of the four remaining individuals only two of them were listed as "level one" traumas. One received six stitches in his forehead and he, and his father were both released Saturday night. Although full information on the other two is sketchy, our understanding is that only one was kept in the hospital. He was transported complaining ONLY of shortness of breath and chest pains. NOT ONE BROKEN BONE IN THE LOT. Please don't misunderstand, for those of you who know me, I am extremely cognizant of safety and empathetic to a fault of motorsport injuries. Ironically, the prior incident that involved a concrete platform that fell 5 feet, also yielded very minimal injuries. No broken bones and only a few abrasions.
Columbus Motor Speedway has operated for 64 years with very few "serious" injuries to spectators, or competitors. We've been recognized by our peers seven of the last eight years as the Race Promotion Monthly Regional Promoter of the Year. At any rate, I've pontificated long enough. Thanks...Jeff Nuckles |
