I see a lot of people on this deal bad mouth a slide job. A perfectly executed slide job is a thing of beauty!!!!!!!! If the car that was slid does not have to slow at all, it is a perfectly executed slide job. Takes gut and skill to pull off a perfect slide job. Seen hundreds in my days. Artwork.

I know slide jobs are par for the course now but my grandpa was running around with the champ cars and sprint cars in the '50 and early '60. He told me one time after seeing a guy pull a slide job in his best old man telling a story voice. "In my day if a guy did that he best have his Sh** packed and out the pit gate pretty fast." He explained if you did that you were tiring to kill the guy or hurt him and he was going to come looking for you and most likely a few others were coming to help. I guess with out cages you had to brave but you still didn't do stupid stuff to increase your risk. It is definitely a different animal today.

I do appreciate a good slide job but I feel it is an art and there is a time and place. Some guys are just to brave and trust that the guy there pulling a slide job on is going to back off.

I had the opportunity to see a slide job festival at a PowerI show at Macon this year with Loyet lap after lap pulling slide jobs on Siner to try and get around. Siner would turn under and drive right back by and finally Loyet missed and hit Siner's front end enough to make him loss his momentum and won the race. I'm not sure if I where siner I wouldn't have had words. This is not taking anything away from Loyet the kid has talent but also a set that is hard to fit in a uniform.

Are some of these young guys braver than they are smart I really don't know I question it sometimes.

Actually , if they removed the cages the "slide job" problem would be eliminated
purty quickly and, in fact, the overall quality of the driving would greatly improve, I come from a time when there were 6 flips per season instead of 6 flips per event.

One of the most famous "slide job" exhibitions was the Stewart/Irwin show at Terra Haute. This pi$$ing match ended with both of the #9 Beast midgets in the fence and Bob East , very loudly, explaining to these guys the errors of their ways.

I remember Foyt giving Johnny White a little remedial lesson about "slide jobs" following an event at New Bremen or Terra Haute. At some point during the lecture, Foyt's fist contacted White's mouth.

The all time "king of the slide job" had to be Steve Butler. He not only performed "sliders" on the dirt at Terra Haute and Eldora, but also at Winchester and IRP. I believe that USAC saved Steve Butler's life by fining him out of business.

In my opinion, if it is perfectly executed and the car being overtaken doesn't have to lock up the brakes to keep from being destroyed, it's a "pass". On the other hand, when some idiot does a bonzai with no regard for the safety, or equipment, of the person on the receiving end, it's a slide job. "Slide jobs" are BS :thumbsdown:

Never seen Clayton, Levy or Stanbrough do slide jobs. 3 of the best in the business and they don't have to pass that way.:thumb

One of the best races I got to see all year was Boespflug and I think it was Jeff Bland Jr trading clean sliders at Twin Cities. I do agree that the banzai moves where someone has to lock up the brakes to keep from killing them suck.
