As the start of Indiana Midget Week 2023 approaches this Sunday, June 4th, I ask everyone on here or even not on here a question.

Do you throw your trash out of your vehicle windows when your driving on roadways? Do you throw your trash out the windows of your campers or motorhomes when traveling? Do you throw your trash out on your lawn when your sitting on your porch or deck or grilling? My guess for most is no.

I live within 2 miles of the baddest bullring in Indiana and arguably the country, The Kokomo Speedway. I drive by it every day. Sometimes multiple times a day depending on where my jobs are at that I'm working. I have livestock within a mile of the track. I see the track ALOT.

I have driven by the next day after big shows including but not limited to, Indiana Midget Week, XRS Late Model Show, WoO, The AllStars, Indiana Sprint Week, Kokomo Smackdown, The Kokomo Klash...there has been times it looks like a mini Woodstock. I mean the amount of trash, garbage, broken chairs, broken grills, it's insane at times. On one hand you look at it and you say...damnnnnnnnnn that was one h*ll of a good time, good show, and good party...then the adult side says ohhhhhhhhh **** look at how much work someone has to do!!!!

It's not just Kokomo Speedway that this happens. I just see it alot more at Kokomo bc of living and working so close to the track. It happens at all the tracks, I'm certain. Gas City for an example, has trash barrels in the parking lot along the gravel driveway for people to use, yet there's trash everywhere and trash cans are not full.

Before some smart*** says it's the track workers jobs to pick up trash, no actually its not their job to pick up after lazy grown adults have several several trash cans within short walking distance and generally walk by trash cans on the way to concessions, restrooms, or their vehicles. Oh the trash cans are full, oh okay how about lay it nearby the trash cans instead of just dropping it wherever, throwing it under the bleachers, or flinging your losing 50/50 tickets over your shoulder and onto wiring running along the backside of the bleachers.

I spend my time at tracks with 2 different groups of people. The 1 big group camps and has campers. The other group are dye hards and travel and tailgate they just dont have campers. Both groups bring plenty of trash bags and put all their trash in trash bags, tie them up, and pile the trash bags in a pile. One easy stop for track workers. I'm certain there are others on here that do this as well. I've seen others do this.

If you don't do this, do you think you could start doing this? If you can afford a race, afford to travel, afford to tailgate, I would imagine you can afford to go to your local dollar store and buy a box of trash bags for you, your family, and your friends. On the inside of the gates, could you use the trash cans? Carry your trash with you when you go to the concessions, restrooms, or out to your vehicle and put it in the trash cans or nearby? If their full just put it on the ground near the trash can? Is that such a difficult task?

At Kokomo Speedway specifically, Sunday June 11th is the Finale of Indiana Midget Week 2023. The very next day/night on Monday June 12th is the $100K to win XRS Late Model Show. You dont have to like Midgets, you dont have to like Late Models, but if your going to either show or your friends are, do you realize how short of a time frame there is to get everything done and ready from Midget Week Finale to the XRS Late Model show, about 12 hours.

I ask for people to do your own part please. This can be another reason that tracks add to their list for reasons to close or have less shows. Respect yourself if nothing else and bag up your trash and put bags of trash in piles if your camping or tailgating and on the inside of the gates put your trash in trash cans or near trash cans please and thank you. Make everyone's life including yours easier.

We have just bought our camper and we were at Kokomo Sunday. I remember thinking the same thing about the trash, I was a little disappointed in my fellow race fans when I woke up and seen the parking lot. Nothing major but general trash everywhere, and a good bit of it was from the cars and not just RV's. At any rate, I didn't know if they would have a cleanup after a weekly show so we tied up our trash and threw it in my truck.

I always bag my trash. I think it comes from having jobs of 43 years where I picked up other people trash.

Congratulations on getting a new camper!! The campers are usually pretty good about bagging up their trash from my experiences. I wont point any fingers at anyone. I was guilty of it at a younger age and now being grown and a mature adult I regret it.

As Funk said his group always bags up their trash and I can contest to that bc that's one of the groups I spend time with and they always bag up their trash. I'm just asking in general for people to do a better job.

And yes they do have a couple of guys at least at Kokomo, not sure about other tracks, that do cleanup the next day. They both are very good friends of mine who have my business on their push trucks, they both have families, they both have full time jobs, and they both are again push truck drivers. It takes way more time then some people may realize to do a cleanup after a race much less a big race, definitely much less with back to back big shows of Midget Week Finale and XRS Late Model Show.
