I’m not sure how many of you remember, but last year’s Chili Bowl Race of Champion’s, for some reason that defies explanation, felt that the great Sam Swindell didn’t fit the definition and was excluded from the event. The absence of the invitation was not taken lightly by those of us who know Sammy’s accomplishments at this event and of course his overall super stardom. Well it appears that they have realized the error of their ways and Slammin Sammy is back in the ROC this year. But don’t you have to ask yourself how the heck he ever gets uninvited in the first place. That kinda mistake is on par with building Silver Crown Cars to run on mile and a half tracks. My opinion is they could name the race the Swindell Race of Champions, after all the drillers won by Sam and Kevin, and you’d be hard pressed to argue against it

Yet another innovative idea for the Chil Bowl, '55. I say once Sammy has officially "retired" from competition, then we run with that moniker for the race.

And better yet, have he, Kevin, and/or Amy present the trophy to the winner thereafter.

You possess cutting edge thinking, flagboy. Cutting edge.

I could easily argue against it. The reason that Sammy was not invited last year was that he did not fit their requirements. Their rules required you to either be a series champion or have won at the Chili Bowl within the last X years. While the Swindell's did have a great run, the rest of the class has caught them and past them. It has been a while since a Swindell car has been in contention for a driller. In fact, I believe that Sammy has missed the A main more times than he has made it in the last several years.

I could easily argue that we should call the race the KKM race of Champions.

Hate to inject facts into your counterpoint but you must have missed Logan Seavey's drives in Kevin's 39 car the last two years.

Here is a direct quote from Keith Kunz himself on Sammy being in VROC:

“He is what that race is. He’s never left, he’s never gone anywhere. He should be in.”

Thanks for your injection of facts. I too thought I read that quote from Keith. Not going to argue but just in case anyone forgot, Sammy has 5 drillers and Kevin has 4 which were CONSECUTIVE! Kevin would probably had more if he was still racing.
